Find the area of a sector of a 16 cm diameter circle.

 Jason wants to make a spinner for a new game. The spinner is a circle divided into eight equal pieces with the diameter of 16 cm what is the area of each piece?

The sector is just the pizza in the circle. If it is divided by 8 equal pieces, then you will just do the same with the area of the circle.

 

Area of the circle = (pi)r²

 

r = d/2 = 16/2 = 8 cm

 

area of the circle = pi(8²) = 64pi

 

area of the sector = area of the circle / 8 = 64pi/8 = 8pi cm²
