Parallel lines mean they have the same slope. In the form y=mx+b, m=slope. Therefore, in the equation y=6x+1 the slope, m, equals 6.
1. Use the point-slope method:
y=6x+1 original equation
(0,8) point given (x1,y1)
y-y1=m(x-x1) point-slope form
Y-8=6(x-0) substitute
y-8+8=6x+8 add 8 to each side
Y=6x+8 answer
