Lainey, Sudeepta, Edison,and Ben are running in a race. At each 1/2 of the course will be rest area. At each 1/6 of the course will be drinking stations. At each 1/12 of the coarse will be a distance markers. At which locations will there be more than one station?

Rest areas at 1/2 and 2/2 (end of course): can be restated as 6/12, 12/12

 

Drink stations at 1/6, 2/6, 3/6, 4/6, 5/6, 6/6; this can be restated as 2/12, 4/12, 6/12, 8/12, 10/12, 12/12

 

Distance markers at 1/12, 2/12, 3/12, 4/12, 6/12,...11/12, 12/12 

 

If you present this as a chart, you'll see that there are two stations at 1/6 and 4/6, three stations at 6/12, two at 8/12 and 10/12, and three at 12/12. 

So there are SIX points on the course where there are 2 or more stations.
