I have over 15 years experience teaching all subjects to inner city and suburban students from preschool through sixth grade. I am passionate about teaching reading and am an expert in delivering scientific based reading instruction that is effective for all types of learners.

I have specialized training in the challenges of ADHD and use an individualized approach with each student that centers on strengths and interests to make learning fun.

I have a Master's Degree in Education and am certified as an elementary teacher. I've held teaching positions in P.S./M.S. 15 in the Bronx and in Ossining Union Free School District. And I've also worked for five years as an educational consultant for many elementary schools in PA where I helped to improve literacy results.

Many of the students that I've taught have had special needs. Those with dyslexia or others with reading difficulties benefit from a systematic phonics approach. I know how to find out what skills are lacking and use explicit multi-sensory techniques to enhance learning. Those with ADHD benefit from a structured environment and a strong connection with an instructor. I have completed training on coaching students with ADHD and am able to engage them in learning.

I believe that all students can achieve great results and I strive to help each one build confidence in his/her own ability.

Excellent tutor - very knowledgeable, very directed

This is our third lesson after the assessment and I think it's going great. I really like how directed Helen's lessons are, and she keeps the lesson going at a fairly fast pace which I think helps keep my daughter on task and hold her attention. She manages to challenge her, keep her engaged, and get her to really apply herself while also being encouraging. I feel really optimistic in how much progress my daughter can make with Helen this coming year!
