Yan has been an exceptional Mandarin tutor for my son, Brennan, over the past three years. What began as a spark of interest has grown into a genuine love of the language and culture, thanks to her patience, consistency, and engaging teaching style. Under Yan’s guidance, Brennan progressed from no prior exposure to reaching a Mandarin 3 level through independent study—an impressive achievement. He is now preparing for a Mandarin 3 placement test to begin formal study in high school. Yan is also highly responsive and collaborative, incorporating school materials I’ve provided to ensure he is well-prepared for this next step. She tailors her approach to his learning style while keeping him motivated and confident. Most importantly, she has inspired true enthusiasm—Brennan even asks to visit Chinatown to hear Mandarin spoken and hopes to participate in a homestay program in Taiwan next summer. Wonderful Chinese Tutor for High School Student
My 14 year old daughter has been working with Yan for a year. She was placed in a level 2 Chinese class without having taken level 1 and Yan quickly covered the whole curriculum for her and brought her up to speed in no time. My daughter than asked to keep working with Yan for the whole year to advance beyond her class because she found the lessons so valuable. I would highly recommend Yan!

Patient but pushes you
Yan is very good at being patient and explaining pronunciation, context, and social customs while also keeping an aggressive learning schedule to keep you from slacking. Would recommend to anyone that wants to learn Chinese after working hours.
