About Ronald

Bio

I am currently not doing coursework hence my availability for tutoring. I live in Kenosha, WI. My specialty is world history with a particular focus on European and American history....

In graduate school I have had the opportunity to not only lead discussion sections and group review sessions, but to also work as a one-on-one tutor. I enjoy teaching/tutoring and have come to realize that I have learned as much as the students. Not only in terms of the material (in order to teach it, you need to know it) but also in terms of my own personal growth. Having to present information to students in a clear way is learning experience for me (as well as for the students). In order to do this, I have to do two things: 1) understand the most important aspects of whatever the topic is and 2) communicate it in a way that is effective. So, I not only develop a greater understanding of the topic but also communication skills that can transfer to other areas of my professional and personal life.

I tutor history, English composition, and public speaking. I have an M.A. in history and have completed 24 of 30 required credit hours in the Ph.D History program at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I am currently not doing coursework hence my availability for tutoring. I live in Kenosha, WI. My specialty is world history with a particular focus on European and American history. I can send copies of transcripts if desired.

My experience in English composition comes from many years of writing in both the professional and academic worlds. I have been published in various print and online outlets. I was awarded the Third Place Certificate by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association for First Person Experience Column Writing for Newspapers - 2004. This column was a reflection upon my experience as an embedded student print reporter during the invasion of Iraq from March to May 2003. I can send a resume upon request.

Finally, I have also identified myself as someone who can tutor public speaking. I don't know how much of a demand there is for this, but years of leading discussion sections and giving public presentations has equipped me with a set of skills that I can pass on to students who want to improve their ability and confidence in this area.

I am willing to meet for free to see if I am a good for for the student. I am new to WyzAnt and look forward to hearing from parents who are looking for a tutor with a passion for history and writing for their child.
