Hello! I’m Jakob, a recent graduate with a degree in Chemistry from Seattle University, where I discovered a passion for organic chemistry and graduated at the top of my class in organic, physical, and biochemistry. My teaching experience spans 1 year as an in-class assistant for elementary students and 3 years as a TA and tutor for college-level physics, math and chemistry.

As a tutor, I focus on three core values:

Engagement and Approachability: I believe a good tutor is like a good therapist—they create a welcoming, proactive learning environment where questions are encouraged. I have experience working with neurodivergent students and those with test-taking anxiety, and I try my best to make you feel supported and confident in your learning.

Respect for Your Time: I understand that school is expensive and students are often overloaded. My aim is to make each session efficient. I have a large toolbox of supplemental materials for every subject I teach that I use to streamline your learning.

Personalized Teaching: Everyone learns differently, so I tailor my methods to fit your strengths. My goal is for you to leave each session with a deeper understanding of the material and strategies that work best for you.

Thank you for your time—I look forward to helping you achieve your academic goals!

Biochemistry

Biochemistry

I have TA'd undergrad organic chemistry courses for 2 years in total, plus another two years of 1 on 1 tutoring. I also scored a perfect score on the biology and biochemistry section of the MCAT. It is safe to say that I love biochemistry! As your tutor, I believe in three core things: 1) Being engaged, interactive, and inclusive. It is really important to me that you feel like we are collaborating with your learning. 2) Respecting your time. Time is so precious in college! 3) Personalizing my teaching to you. Everyone learns differently, and I want to know what works best for you.
Biology

Biology

I started teaching in 2019 as a TA for undergraduate organic chemistry, and have about 4 years of tutoring experience in total. I have also worked as a research assistant in a biochemistry lab for a year. I'm very comfortable with introductory biology, physiology, cellular biology, biochemistry, and other premed related biology subjects; I may not be the best tutor if you are looking for help with ecology or botany.
Chemistry

Chemistry

I have TA'd undergrad chemistry courses for 2 years in total, plus another two years of 1 on 1 tutoring. I teach all levels of chemistry, including high school AP/IB chemistry + undergraduate chemistry courses. If you are a pre-med student, I have taken the MCAT and can help you learn important concepts for the exam. I hope you reach out!
MCAT

MCAT

I am a pre-health specialist who took the MCAT in the summer of 2025, and scored a 132/129/132/131 (524) overall. I also have 4 years of experience teaching university level science courses (gen chem, ochem, biochem, physics). My approach to tutoring centers on one key goal: making sure your hard work is working for you. It’s all too easy to feel overwhelmed by the endless sea of MCAT resources or to feel like you’re treading water despite putting in the effort. I will help you fine-tune your studying until we find the most efficient and sustainable approach for you. And of course, I will be more than happy to work out any troubles with content. I have personally completed all of the content by the AAMC and uworld so I thoroughly know my stuff. Whether you are looking for a 508, 518, or 528, I am excited to help you achieve your MCAT goals and get into medical school!
Microbiology

Microbiology

I have TA'd undergrad chemistry courses for 2 years in total, plus another two years of 1 on 1 tutoring. Additionally, I worked as a payed research assistant for a year, studying the glycogen metabolism of different strains of lactobacillus.
Organic Chemistry

Organic Chemistry

I have TA'd undergrad organic chemistry courses for 2 years in total, plus another two years of 1 on 1 tutoring. Learning o-chem really is like learning a second language, and one of the toughest things is knowing how, and what, to study. The material can feel bottomless. I have extensive experience guiding students in their exam preparation - it is incredibly important to use your time efficiently! Also, if you are a pre-med student, I have taken the MCAT and can help you learn important concepts for the exam.

The most patient and knowledge tutor!

Everyone knows organic chem II is not the easiest class. Jakob makes this class seems so simple! He’s great at breaking things down into a non-chemistry language. For the first time in a long time I feel confident about what I’m learning.

Relatable and knowledgeable

We got lucky with this tutor! He is doing a great job with my son! Mark is in pharmacy school and Jakob understands when he needs to know in chem. Mark is doing well and feels really comfortable working with Jakob. Jakob brings examples and work to do with my son as well as reviewing my son's work from class. He has videos to suggest and is just overall a great tutor!

Knowledgeable, patient, and kind

Jakob has been helping me immensely with biochemistry. He is able to break down each concept into terms that I understand, and he has the utmost patience with explaining concepts more than once. I will be meeting with Jakob for the rest of the semester! :)

Supportive, Encouraging, Knowledgeable OCHEM Tutor

Jakob is an excellent tutor for organic chemistry. I worked with him for over ten sessions because he is consistently punctual, flexible, kind, and supportive. While one may imagine a recent college graduate may have less experience tutoring, I found Jakob to be more supportive, approachable, and knowledgeable than others with more tutoring experience. He is generous and dedicated, often asking about my experience in the course and issues on the exams to tailoring sessions to my needs and weaknesses. He knew how to identify and explain the mechanisms well and took time to provide external study materials or to create additional problems. He was patient and encouraging when I was lost or unsure of how to approach a problem and inspired more confidence to continue to improve. He was also highly responsive, getting back to messages quickly. I would highly recommend him to anyone who is struggling in organic chemistry and looking for longer term support throughout a course.

Excellent tutor!

He is thorough and provides tools to help me understand the concepts. He really knows chemistry and is patient when teaching others. I also like the pace that he talks, my chemistry professor talks very fast and that adds to the difficulty of the subject.

Knowledgeable and Patient

He is great! I am in accelerated OCHEM and was struggling. Jakob was very patient, willing to re-explain whatever you may not understand, and gives plenty of resources to help you study on your own. He explains things very clearly and has helped me immensely!
