I’m Jakob, and I have a degree in Chemistry from Seattle University, where I discovered a passion for organic chemistry and graduated at the top of my class in organic, physical, and biochemistry. Hello! I’m Jakob, and I have a degree in Chemistry from Seattle University, where I discovered a passion for organic chemistry and graduated at the top of my class in organic, physical, and biochemistry. My teaching experience spans 1 year as an in-class assistant for elementary students, 2 years as a TA and tutor for college-level STEM courses, and finally 2 years tutoring privately online. In addition to tutoring, I am currently applying to medical school (dream school is UW!) and I scored a 524 on my MCAT.

When I took the MCAT, I scored in the 99th percentile for the Biology and Biochemistry section, so it is safe to say that I know my stuff!

I scored in the 99th percentile on the MCAT biology and biochemistry section, so I am very comfortable with introductory biology, physiology, cellular biology, biochemistry, and other premed related biology subjects. However I may not be the best tutor if you are looking for help with ecology or botany.

I also have 4 years of experience teaching university level science courses (gen chem, ochem, biochem, physics). It’s all too easy to feel overwhelmed by the endless sea of MCAT resources or to feel like you’re treading water despite putting in the effort. We got lucky with this tutor! He is doing a great job with my son! Mark is in pharmacy school and Jakob understands when he needs to know in chem. Mark is doing well and feels really comfortable working with Jakob. Jakob brings examples and work to do with my son as well as reviewing my son's work from class. He has videos to suggest and is just overall a great tutor!

Outstanding science tutor

Jakob is the absolute best tutor you could ask for. He’s the reason I was able to pull my grade up multiple levels and excel in my challenging upper-level undergrad cell biology course. Not only is he incredibly knowledgeable, but also gifted when it comes to figuring out difficult biological concepts on the spot, translating complicated science jargon into understandable concepts, and being adaptive to different student learning styles and course structures. He also learned my specific syllabus and kept our sessions consistently aligned with what my course was covering and testing. He was also very reliable and professional in regards to punctuality, consistent follow-through, and remaining engaged throughout sessions. Jakob also possesses amazing coaching skills when it comes to test-taking strategies and response formulation. Supportive, Encouraging, Knowledgeable OCHEM Tutor

Jakob is an excellent tutor for organic chemistry. I worked with him for over ten sessions because he is consistently punctual, flexible, kind, and supportive. While one may imagine a recent college graduate may have less experience tutoring, I found Jakob to be more supportive, approachable, and knowledgeable than others with more tutoring experience. He is generous and dedicated, often asking about my experience in the course and issues on the exams to tailoring sessions to my needs and weaknesses. He knew how to identify and explain the mechanisms well and took time to provide external study materials or to create additional problems. He was patient and encouraging when I was lost or unsure of how to approach a problem and inspired more confidence to continue to improve. He was also highly responsive, getting back to messages quickly. I would highly recommend him to anyone who is struggling in organic chemistry and looking for longer term support throughout a course.
