About Andrew

Bio

My road to math was long and windy. Paying attention to lectures was a struggle when I was younger and the feeling of being overwhelmed and behind is very familiar to me. It wasn't until much later that I was exposed to a different way of thinking about math that was engaging enough to make me want to return to school and pursue a degree in mathematics. If you are struggling, it is my hope that we can work together to find the way of thinking about math that is engaging for you.

I have two years of experience teaching algebra and precalculus to undergraduate college students at Western Washington University where I am currently finishing my Masters degree in mathematics. Recently I began a second graduate degree in computer science from Georgia Tech. I received my Bachelors Degree in mathematics from the University of Washington at Bothell where I worked as a teaching assistant for courses in real analysis and abstract algebra. It was there that took courses in abstract algebra, linear algebra, real analysis, complex analysis, numerical analysis, topology and combinatorics, discrete math & algorithms, among others. I did my coursework in calculus and introductory linear algebra in the Seattle Community College system. Additionally, I did undergraduate research in the areas of matrix theory, graph theory and complex analysis. I have experience tutoring algebra, precalculus, linear algebra, abstract algebra and formal logic and my favorite math topics are linear algebra and discrete math/combinatorics/graph theory. I am also currently employed as an embedded math tutor for a local community college.

Approved Subjects

Calculus

Calculus

I work with students studying calculus at a local community college and I have over a year's experience tutoring real analysis (abstract calculus) to junior and senior undergraduate math students. I received top grades in Calculus I-III and Vector Calculus as an undergraduate. As a graduate student of mathematics, calculus is almost second nature and I have done well in many classes where the tools of basic calculus are employed.
Discrete Math

Discrete Math

I am a graduate student studying mathematics and computers science with four years of studying discrete math. I have received a top grade in all of my combinatorics and graph theory classes at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including a course on Ramsey theory. I have years of experience helping students understand set theory and how to construct proofs. I have a published, academic paper in the areas of graph theory and linear algebra and I am currently studying the spectral properties of strongly regular graphs.
Linear Algebra

Linear Algebra

Linear Algebra and Matrix Theory are two of my favorite subjects! I have coauthored two published, academic papers in matrix theory and have taken four classes in linear algebra at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Precalculus

Precalculus

Two years teaching precalculus and algebra at the college level and an additional 2+ years tutoring precalculus. One of my current roles is as an embedded tutor in precalculus classes at a local community college where I work with students in- and outside of class to help them grasp the concepts needed to pursue calculus.
