Smith College gave me an extraordinarily supportive and respectful environment to pursue my education in Computer Science. The help I received from the department tutors was crucial to my academic success, and I jumped at the first opportunity to join their ranks and help beginning learners in the same way that they helped me. Since graduating in 2011 I have mostly worked as a web developer, but I've never forgotten the confidence and clarity those tutors helped me find. Today, I want to ensure that anyone with an interest in programming gets the same support and sense of community.

I've been creating digital art with Adobe Photoshop since 2005. Over the years I have gained mastery of brush & smudge tool settings, layer modes, clipping masks, and more. I also have some familiarity with other Adobe products such as Illustrator. You can find examples of my work at strange-quark.com/illustration.

As a professional web developer with over 7 years of industry experience, I can teach you the latest techniques for writing clean, readable code, and creating web content that looks good on a wide range of devices. As a tutor, my goal is to pinpoint which concepts you struggle with the most, and to provide you with engaging, easy-to-understand explanations for those concepts.

I am committed to treating my students with patience and respect, especially those who don't feel they fit in with the stereotypical "tech bro" image. If you have any questions or would like to schedule a lesson, please feel free to contact me!

I took drawing classes of some form or another from elementary school through college, and I've drawn as a hobby all my life; in recent years I've taken on art commissions and had work in gallery shows. I mostly do digital painting, but I also work in pencils and pen & ink.

CSS

I've been using CSS in personal and professional projects since the days of CSS2, but I closely follow browser implementation of CSS3 and "level 4" specifications. I also have experience with both Sass and Less preprocessors. Ask me about flexbox! :)
PHP,

PHP

In my 7+ years as a web developer, I have built/modified both the front and back ends of my clients' sites. Many of my clients' sites are built on Magento or WordPress, and for the WordPress clients, I've written both themes and plugins. At my first job, I spent about a year exclusively building sites with the CodeIgniter framework.

A calm force of knowledge

Kae helped me with Html5 canvas animation. Kae is extremely patient and has a calm presence. I felt at ease working with Kae right away. I explained what I was trying to accomplish and Kae guided me to resources and helped me come to the answer. This tutor is a professional, who can explain complex terms in an easy to understand manner.

Great tutor - highly recommend!!!

Kae was awesome!! I needed help with a last minute CSS/Flexbox assignment and she was great. She walked me through everything and had me write the actual code which really helped. Flexbox can be a pain but I'm so happy that I've found someone that gets it. Excited to work with Kae again in the future! Thank you so much!!

Great Tutor with Personal Tips that Really help!!!

Kate helped me understand some javascript concepts. She taught me one tip that really help me with my code. Kudos about the tip that if line ends in curley braces then the next line typically will end in semo colon. That one tip alone was worth the session. Thank Kae!!! You Rock!!
