Hello there! My name is Sam! I graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) with a Kinesiology degree. Although I do not have a background in teaching/tutoring, I have always been enthusiastic about helping others reach their goals and having fun at the same time! In college the most enjoyable courses for me were those that encouraged participation and group cooperation. I do necessarily see this tutoring opportunity as one where I am the instructor or adviser. I see this as an opportunity for both of us to learn and grow.
I have always been very passionate about chess. Ever since the age of six I have played and enjoyed this beautiful game. From ages 6 to 12, I competed at a very high level, competing in local tournaments here in Seattle, state tournaments, and national competitions. I no longer compete in tournaments but have continued my study of chess. From opening tactics, situational play, and endgame techniques. In no way am I the most skilled chess player, but in each game I play I learn something new. There's a saying in chess, "It takes 40 good moves to win a game, and 1 bad move to lose a game". My goal is to identify and limit these bad choices and create more opportunities for success. This is what I want to share with others as we discover them together.
At the end of the day, my goal is to provide the most positive experience for whomever I tutor. I am easy to reach and will always be quick to respond.
