I have a Bachelor's Degree in Intercultural Studies as well as a Master's degree in TESOL. I have taught English as a Second Language for three years at Cascadia Community College and South Seattle College. I have tutored in reading and writing for over a decade. I have worked with elementary aged school children all the way through adult ages. I have taught multiple levels of ability. I have taught reading, writing, grammar, and listening/speaking as isolated subjects as well as taught them...

I have been a teacher for the last 10 years. Seven of those years were spent as an Adventure Guide teaching experiential learning. For the last three years, I have been concentrating on academic teaching. I am most experienced in English; specifically reading and writing. I have been an ESL Instructor at community colleges in and around Seattle for the last five years. I have a Masters degree in TESOL, and I have taught all English ability levels; from beginner to advanced. I have taught reading, writing, grammar, and listening speaking as individual specific and intensive courses and as combined more generalized courses. I am available most days and evenings. I have a car as well, so I can come to you if that is easier.

I have a methodical approach to understanding the fundamentals of reading. Whether the text is Informational, persuasive, or literature, text structures have a "recipe". Showing students that 'recipe' helps to lessen the anxiety and stress of reading, answering comprehension questions, and writing post-reading essays. Reading is also a great way to gain new vocabulary and improve writing skills. No one begins as a phenomenal reader/writer. Practice is the only way to improve. I am incredibly patient with my students and I make sure to point out, praise, and reward every small improvement.

Reading strategies are critical when taking a standardized test such as the SAT and ACT. I have a wide variety of reading strategies for you to choose the one that best fits your needs and learning style. I create all the curriculum and practice that you will need, even when your skills need a great deal of work.

SSAT

The SSAT test will not test your wide ranging vocabulary, but rather your depth of vocabulary knowledge for middle level words. I can help you beat this test!

I have taught ESL and prepared students for TOEFL and IELTS exams since getting my master's degree in TESOL in 2013. I have taught ESL for South Seattle College, North Seattle College, Cascadia College, and Pierce College.

I offer a structured and methodical approach to the writing process. You wouldn't take a trip without a map, and you shouldn't write an essay without a plan! I can show you make an easy plan that transfers perfectly to paper. I can show you the "recipe" and teach you how to become a master chef of writing yourself.
