I have over 25 years of experience teaching U.S. History, including AP, on an individualized basis, both in person and online.

Career Development

I have developed a course in job preparation skills which includes how to dress, what to expect from an interview, mock interviewing, and various life skills preparation. I have delivered this program to teenagers and adults.

English

I have thirty plus years of experience in working in individualized programs for all aspects of English including literature, grammar, composition, and proofreading.

Essay Writing

Can help with thesis statements, outlines, proofreading, punctuation and grammar. I know MLA, APA, Chicago. I helped edited a published history book.

GED

I have 18 years of experience working with at-risk students to attain basic skills necessary to pass the GED.

Interview Prep

I have expertise in coaching people of all ages to prepare for interviewing. This includes juvenile felons and out of work people. I also can help with resume revisions.

Phonics

I have 18 years of experience teaching non-readers to read using phonics. I also worked in the adult literacy program through the Los Agneles Library system in the late 1980s.

Social Studies

I am Washington State endorsed and highly qualified in all levels of middle and high school social studies, including Pacific Northwest History, World History and Geography, United States History, US Government and Civics, and Economics. I have taught these subjects for the past 18 years. Further, I taught these subjects in California for 9 years, although I taught California State History there rather than Pacific Northwest History.

Special Needs

I have spent 18 years teaching special needs students at Maple Lane High School. This has included LD, MMR, EBD, and Aspergers students as well as mentally-ill students. I am also experienced in dealing with ADD and ADHD students. I have taken a number of courses in special education at West Florida University in Pensacola, Florida. I can provide course names and descriptions if you need them.

Study Skills

My major focus in educating at-risk students has been to teach and reinforce study skills for success in school (and life). This includes how to find the main idea and also how to eliminate answers in order to isolate the correct response.

United States History

I have taught and tutored all levels of U.S. History at middle, high school, and college levels. I developed individualized curriculum for alternative studies as well as minoring in History at the University of California.
