Biology is my passion, and I’d love to teach it to you! I have a B.A. in Biology from Boston University, where I received the Dean’s Distinguished Research Fellowship. Before college, I earned six AP 5s in Biology, English Language and Literature, and US, World, and European History. I have spent six years doing research at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, Seattle Children’s Research Institute, and Dyno Therapeutics, where biology isn’t just something I studied for a test -- it’s what I’ve done for a living.

I also have two years of experience teaching and working with kids at Seacamp San Diego and the Boys & Girls Club, in addition to my current work as a one-on-one tutor for middle and high school students. I specialize in AP Biology, general biology, AP US, World, and European History, AP Lang & Lit, essays, and SAT and PSAT preparation. I take a small number of students each term so I can teach the way I want to. I'll read your last tests or assignments to figure out where you’re losing points, then we'll work on what is costing you. I read your scores the way I read lab results: what changed, what didn’t, and what to do differently next week. I strongly believe that when you're learning, there are no failures to get hung up on. Everything is just data to work with. Keep moving forward!

I believe every student can get there, and there are many roads to success, so I'll tailor my approach to your unique learning style. We’ll work through problems out loud so I can see exactly where the logic breaks, then build a systematic way to approach new problems instead of just drilling flashcards. In biology especially, I can translate the science behind the material because I’ve used it at the lab bench. Don't sleep on my mastery of the other subjects I offer though! No matter the subject, my job is to make the hard stuff make sense and get you where want to go. Step by step, your grades and scores will improve, and you'll grow into a more complete and prepared human being.

Biology

Biology

I have a B.A. in Biology from Boston University, where I received the Dean’s Distinguished Research Fellowship, and six years of professional research experience at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, Seattle Children’s Research Institute, and Dyno Therapeutics. Biology is my specialty: I’ve had my hands on cell culture, molecular biology, genetics, biotechnology, and even some marine biology and ecology in professional research settings at elite organizations, so I can connect concepts from the classroom to the real science behind them. I also earned a 5 on the AP Biology exam and an 800/800 on the biology SAT subject test, and have two years of experience teaching kids at Seacamp San Diego and the Boys & Girls Club.
English

English

I'm a native English speaker and have always earned top marks in my English courses. I earned 5s on both the AP English Language and AP English Literature exams, along with a 780/800 on SAT Writing, and continued developing my writing at Boston University. I enjoy making language learning engaging and approachable rather than overly academic, but I can also teach you how to write effectively for school or work if that’s your goal. As someone who has studied both French and Spanish, I know firsthand how challenging learning another language can be! I also know what it takes to make steady progress and build confidence along the way. My career as a scientist has given me a lot of experience communicating complex ideas clearly, both in writing and in conversation. Failing to do so can have serious consequences! I’ve also spent two years working with children, so I’m happy to work with younger students as well.
SAT Reading

SAT Reading

I scored a 780/800 on SAT Reading and 5s on both the AP Language and AP Literature exams. Beyond that though, I have always been an avid reader, with extensive experience reading and analyzing literature, history, and other nonfiction. I’ve also taken college-level writing and humanities courses at Boston University as part of my B.A. training. My approach is to help students understand how to read strategically under time pressure, identify what a passage is actually saying, and use the evidence in the text to arrive at the right answer. I also have strong test-taking skills to share, including how to recognize question patterns, eliminate wrong answers, manage time, and avoid the traps that standardized tests use to separate good answers from the best one. I have two years of experience teaching kids at Seacamp San Diego and the Boys & Girls Club, as well as experience working one-on-one with students. We’ll use practice questions diagnostically: I want to understand why a student chose an answer, not just whether it was right, so we can build the reading and test-taking skills that will actually move their score.
Swimming

Swimming

I’ve been a water child since I was a little kid. I was a state finalist all four years of high school, team captain, still hold school records, competed at the Western Zone Championships, and even traveled to China for an international exchange meet. While I’m knowledgeable about the strength, conditioning, and nutrition skills needed to excel in swimming, I really consider myself a master technician, having been trained by Bill Boomer’s coaching disciples in Washington. Think of me like a penguin or a seal: I sleep on land, but my home is in the water. From all four strokes to starts and turns to racing strategy, we’ll work on the details that make a swimmer faster and more efficient in the water. Let's take your swimming to the next level. I'm also an experienced lifeguard and have experience teaching beginners how to get comfortable with the fundamentals of swimming safely, including breath control, floating, and basic movement. Swimming is still a huge part of my life: in my spare time you might find me playing water polo, scuba diving at a reef, or free diving for crabs and lobsters. Whether you’re an experienced swimmer looking for a technical edge or just learning to feel comfortable in the water, I’d love to help.
United States History

United States History

I scored a 790/800 on the SAT US History Subject Test and a 5 on the AP US History exam. I lived in Boston for 10 years and ate up the local history, as I still do every year. My family has been in America since the 1600s, and I’m a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, Sons of the Civil War, and Sons of the War of 1812. Our country’s history is complex and fascinating, and I’m eager to share my enthusiasm for it. I believe synthesis beats knowledge: we won’t just memorize facts, we’ll understand the themes and connections that underlie the dates and names. The goal is to build understanding, not just knowledge, so you can approach unfamiliar questions systematically instead of relying on flashcards. We’ll also work on the practical skills that turn that understanding into better grades and exam scores, including essay writing, thesis development, DBQs, connecting evidence to an argument, and effective test-taking strategies. I am excited to take your history skills to the next level!
World History

World History

I scored a 5 on the AP World History exam, but my interest in world history goes back much further than AP classes. Since I was a kid playing Age of Empires on my old Dell computer, I’ve loved learning how civilizations and cultures developed, collided, blended, traded, fought, and changed one another. I’ve also traveled the world and am obsessed with making connections across the world and across time. To me, world history isn’t just names and dates: it’s the stories of the most interesting people EVER, and the story of how the world we live in today came to be. Ignorance of history is like having no memory. Imagine if you didn’t remember yesterday! How would you grow, or understand your place in the world? I believe synthesis beats knowledge. We won’t just memorize facts, we’ll understand the themes and connections that underlie the dates and names. When you build understanding you can approach unfamiliar questions systematically instead of relying on flashcards. I want students to see history as a connected story and understand what matters -- that's what actually holds up on exam day. We’ll also work on the practical skills that turn historical understanding into better grades and exam scores, including essay writing, thesis development, DBQs, connecting evidence to an argument, and effective test-taking strategies. I’m excited to take your world history skills to the next level -- it might change your life!
Writing

Writing

I earned 5s on both the AP English Language and AP English Literature exams and a 780/800 on SAT Writing, and I took college-level writing and humanities courses at Boston University. I teach students to write persuasively, academically, or artistically, without relying on AI tools. Becoming a better writer isn’t just about getting better grades: writing is the key to unlocking countless academic and career opportunities. The reason is simple: strong communication helps in nearly every subject. Not just English and history class, but science, engineering, math, and beyond. We’ll work to understand the many decisions a writer makes and how those decisions comprise the art of writing. Rather than treating writing as a formula, I want students to understand why a particular word, sentence, piece of evidence, or organizational choice can change the meaning of what they are saying. Then we'll work on how to make those choices ourselves. The best teacher of writing? Reading! We’ll use good writing as a model and learn to analytically read the work of masters to add to our own writing toolbox. Whether we’re working on an AP essay, a school assignment, college-level writing, or creative work, I’ll help you develop the skills and judgment to become a more confident, independent writer. Mastering language honestly doesn’t just make you a better student -- it helps you become a better human.
