Hi, my name is Giovannie! I graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science. Even before that though, I had taken a special interest in math and science, and have carried that throughout my education and my professional career. Somewhere along the line, I realized that I enjoy teaching others about what I've learned, not only in math and science fields, but in general!
In high school, I tutored at a learning facility near my home for a few years. There were many students in the learning center, ranging from elementary school students to high school students. I helped roughly 3-5 students a day with a variety of assignments assigned from their school or from the learning center itself. I usually helped with (but was not limited to) high school math.
My love for teaching what I know grew stronger, and I continued this during college, where I became a teaching assistant (TA) for two courses: (1) Discrete Math and (2) Introduction to Analysis of Algorithms. There, I held office hours with another TA, where we'd review problem sets or questions from the material discussed during lecture. For discrete math in particular, we also held discussion classes where we ran a small classroom (~20 students per discussion) in which we went over the discussion problems given to us by the professor for that week. I was a discrete math TA for two semesters and an algorithms TA for another two semesters.
My teaching style consists of breaking down problems with easy-to-understand analogies, making it easier for students to truly digest the material. I believe that students should understand the concept behind the material first, as that is the best and most efficient way to solve problems in an academic setting. Students may ask me questions as many times as they'd like, and can ask as many questions as they'd like. I will never turn their questions away, and I always seek to increase the student's understanding of the material.
