Hello! I'm Sophia, a fourth-year medical student at the University of Michigan who enjoys helping students build confidence in subjects that once felt overwhelming. My path to medicine has given me experience learning and teaching science from multiple perspectives. I earned my bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in Criminal Justice from Northeastern University before completing a post-baccalaureate program at Scripps College to complete my premedical science prerequisites and begin medical school at the University of Michigan. Because these foundational courses are still fresh in my mind, I understand not only the material itself, but also the study strategies and ways of thinking that help students succeed. I feel particularly passionate tutoring as a student that came in without a foundation of science knowledge and had to build it up myself during my postbacc.
I've tutored students in the sciences and enjoy breaking down difficult concepts into clear, approachable explanations. Every student learns differently, so I tailor each session to the individual—whether that means working through practice problems, building conceptual frameworks, creating memory aids, or finding a new way to explain a topic until it clicks. In medical school, I've earned Honors in every core clinical rotation while balancing research, leadership, and teaching. I've successfully completed both USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 and am happy to tutor premedical coursework, undergraduate biology, psychology, anatomy and physiology, medical school classes, or board exam prep. My goal is not just to help students earn higher grades, but to help them become confident, independent learners. I know how stressful courses and high-stakes exams can be because I've been there myself, and I strive to make tutoring supportive, encouraging, and engaging. Questions are welcome, and mistakes are part of learning! Whether you're preparing for your next exam or building a stronger foundation in the sciences, I'd love to help you reach your goals.
