I earned my undergraduate degree from Whitman College and my graduate degree from the University of Washington. I have also completed advanced professional development in reading and writing instruction such as holding a reading endorsement, being LETRS-trained, and Wired for Reading training.
I am particularly energized by teaching struggling students how to read and write, whether they formally have dyslexia or are suspected of having dyslexia. I use explicit, evidence-based, multi-sensory instructional methods and monitor the progress my students are making. I use resources from Heggerty, UFLI, LETRS, and Wired for Reading, to name a few, depending on the specific instructional needs of my students. I also work to use my students' interests and background knowledge when planning instructional sessions.
