I'm Katie! I hold a PhD in Pathobiology from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine where I specialized in neurodegenerative disease research and stem cell-based modeling. As a scientist in the Seattle biotechnology sector, I use my understanding of disease mechanisms to develop therapeutics for diseases like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

My technical background includes a deep understanding of human disease mechanisms, including neurodegeneration, oncology, and immunology. I have extensive experience in the molecular mechanisms of disease, cell and molecular biology, and genetics, and I truly enjoy making these subjects accessible and engaging for students at all levels. I have tutored high school students, and served as a teaching assistant to undergraduates, graduate students, and medical students. Whether you are building a foundation in biological concepts or studying for advanced exams in human disease biology, I provide personalized guidance and study techniques to help you master the material.

In addition to my research work in the biotech sector, I am passionate about biomedical graduate admissions consulting and mentorship. Having navigated the PhD application cycle independently as the first scientist in my family, I understand how challenging the process can be. I work one-on-one with students to transform their research experiences into high-impact statements of purpose and develop strategies for graduate admissions interviews. My goal is to provide the personalized support needed to help you reach your professional goals and find your place in the biomedical community.

I hold a PhD in Pathobiology from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine where I specialized in neurodegenerative disease research and stem cell-based modeling. Over the last decade, I have conducted research on the molecular mechanisms of neurological diseases such as ALS, Alzheimer’s, and Parkinson’s. My teaching experience includes serving as a teaching assistant for the nervous system and special senses laboratory course for medical students at Johns Hopkins. Additionally, I have successfully prepared graduate students for their doctoral qualifying exams in neurodegenerative disease pathobiology by developing comprehensive study materials and visual aids.
