About Matt

Bio

Writing has been my profession for over a decade, and I've built a career on helping people communicate more clearly and confidently. That's exactly what I bring to tutoring. Whether a student is struggling to get words on the page, working to sharpen their reading comprehension, or just trying to feel less lost when an assignment lands in front of them, I know how to meet them where they are and help them find their footing.

My teaching background includes several years as a summer school teacher's assistant working with students across all grades and subjects, K through 12. That time in the classroom gave me a real feel for how differently kids learn at different ages, what tends to trip them up, and what it actually takes to keep a student engaged when the material gets hard. I enjoy working with a wide range of ages, from younger students building their foundational reading habits to older students finding their voice on paper (or monitor).

I try to start every tutoring relationship by getting to know the student first. Kids tend to do their best work when they feel like they have some say in how things go, so I make a point of looping in both students and parents early to find a structure and pace that actually works. Some kids want a clear plan and a consistent routine. Others need more room to explore. I am comfortable with both, and the best sessions tend to happen when we find that balance together. Whatever that looks like, my goal is simple: every student walks away feeling more capable and more confident than before.

Creative Writing

Creative Writing

Learning to write creatively is really about learning to say something worth saying in a way that sticks. I help students at all grade levels find that voice, develop their ideas with intention, and build the kind of confidence on the page that makes writing feel less intimidating and more natural. My background spans seven years in broadcast journalism and six years as a professional copywriter, both of which demanded creativity, clarity, and economy under real pressure. I'm comfortable working with students at any starting point and tailor every session to where that individual student is.
English

English

A strong command of English opens doors in every subject and every area of life, and I love helping students develop it at any grade level. Whether a student needs help with foundational grammar, building reading comprehension, or finding a more confident writing voice, I meet them where they are and build from there. My career spans seven years in broadcast journalism and six years as a copywriter, both of which demanded a sharp, practical command of the English language every single day. I'm flexible, easy to work with, and focused on what will make the biggest difference for each student.
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

A well-written essay makes a clear point and brings the reader along without losing them. That's a skill I help students develop at every grade level, from kids writing their first structured paragraphs to high schoolers sharpening their analytical voice. My background in broadcast journalism trained me to build tight arguments under deadline, and six years as a copywriter pushed me to make every sentence count. I meet students where they are and focus on the fundamentals that will make the biggest difference for that individual.
Reading

Reading

Strong reading skills pay off in every subject and every stage of life, and helping students build them is something I genuinely enjoy. Whether a student is just developing their foundational reading habits or working to engage more confidently with challenging material, I meet them where they are and make sure every session moves them forward. My career in broadcast journalism demanded close, critical reading every single day, and six years as a copywriter kept those skills sharp in a different context. I work comfortably with students across all grade levels and tailor my approach to what each individual student needs most.
Writing

Writing

Strong writing is one of the most useful skills a student can develop, and it gets better faster than most people expect with the right kind of help. I work with students at all grade levels, from kids learning to organize their thoughts on paper to older students refining their voice and style, and I tailor every session to where that individual student is. My career spans seven years in broadcast journalism and six years as a professional copywriter, both of which held me to a high standard of clarity and precision every single day. I'm easy to work with, flexible in my approach, and focused on helping every student walk away feeling more capable than before.
