Writing a strong essay requires clear thinking, organization, and an authentic voice. I help students turn their ideas into writing that is clear, compelling, meaningful, and reader-focused. My former students have gone on to attend top colleges and universities, including Harvard, Stanford, Princeton, Columbia, Brown, Northwestern, the University of Chicago, UC Berkeley, the University of Michigan, and Dartmouth.
I have 17 years of experience as a middle- and high-school English teacher, and eight+ years' experience as a world language teacher (French and German). I am also the author of 16 books, including 14 novels and a former Amazon category bestseller. My instruction focuses on one-on-one editorial conferences, guiding students to clarify their ideas and communicate them effectively to readers. I have taught writing at both the middle- and high-school levels and have coached countless students through college essays and academic writing projects.
I hold a dual Master’s degree from Indiana University in French Literature and Modern German Culture and have presented at regional, national, and international conferences on writing pedagogy. My work has received awards including a VOYA Top Shelf Fiction Award and a Skipping Stones Honor Award for multicultural literature. I have also won two teaching awards: the IU Dept. of French & Italian Associate Instructor Award, and the Supporting Emotional Needs of Gifted Honor Roll.
Students often work with me on college essays, academic writing, literary analysis, research papers, and revision strategies. My sessions focus on strengthening ideas, organization, and voice—skills that extend far beyond a single assignment.
I tutor middle-school, high-school, and college students online or in person and am happy to begin with a brief consultation. I ask for 12 hours' notice for rescheduling or cancellations.
