I'm currently an undergraduate student at Seattle Pacific University pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. As a part of the University's Honors Scholars Program, I'm also pursuing a degree in Honors Liberal Arts. Being a collegiate athlete, whose double-majoring, time management and organization skills come very naturally to me. Throughout all of my elementary school years, I attended a Japanese public school, making me a native speaker and well-versed in the culture. In high school, I've taken 8 AP courses, excelling especially in AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, and AP Japanese Language and Culture, as proof of my proficiency in these areas, which I intend to help other students succeed in.
Throughout high school, I have helped several classmates and friends with homework and studying in mathematics classes from Algebra 1 to AP Calculus BC. During my senior year of high school, when I officially started tutoring middle and high school students, I helped improve several of their grades. For one of my middle school students, I helped bring her grade up from a D+ to an A-.
Typically, I hold one-on-one tutoring sessions, but I am open to group study sessions. In the first session, I assess where the student is with their understanding of the topics from their classes and cater to the areas where they are struggling. Before meeting with students, I have them send me their notes and assignments from their classes to organize lesson plans and practice questions that would be aligned to class topics. With math being a very foundational subject, I also like to prepare warm-up questions that go back to fundamentals to ensure that if and when students make mistakes in assignments, quizzes, or exams, it's not mistakes from concepts that aren't related to what they're learning in class. Aware of the challenges in managing time between school, homework, and extracurriculars, I usually don't assign work to do outside of sessions unless it is necessary or beneficial to the student themself.
