Hi! I'm Kate. I graduated from my BA program with honors in English, and hold a PhD in English Literature and an MFA in creative writing, specializing in poetry. I specialize in working with college students and adults to improve their writing, including support for college and graduate student admissions essays. I will help you to hone your ideas, develop your writing skills, and connect to your own excitement about your topic, with the goal of motivating you to communicate your ideas to readers. I listen carefully to the issues at stake and then focus on key targeted skills, allow time to practice implementing them, and leave you with actionable next steps for going forward. I offer a positive, supportive approach. I support writers at all stages of the writing process to write in any and all subjects. I specialize in tutoring college and graduate students as well as adult writers in creative and essay writing.

I developed this method over the last 15+ years of experience teaching writing and literature to college and graduate students. I have taught literature, writing, and creative writing courses in college classrooms: I met regularly with students from all backgrounds, including ESL students, to coach them in writing, and also taught writing skills in the classroom. I have taught introduction to creative writing at the college level, and also poetry writing courses. I tutored graduate and undergraduate writers in three university tutoring centers, helped to train peer writing tutors, and helped college faculty teach writing in different disciplines. I have worked with adults as a supportive creative writing coach.
