My journey from research scientist to educator reflects my deep commitment to making complex concepts accessible and meaningful. I hold a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a minor in Life Sciences Communication, plus a Bachelor's and Master's in Biotechnology from the Indian Institute of Technology. During my doctoral studies, I won the Kenzi Valentyn Vision Research Award for scientific excellence, and I've continued my research as a postdoctoral scientist at the University of Washington, specializing in visual perception and brain development.
Over the past 9+ years, I've developed extensive teaching experience across diverse student populations and learning environments. As Community Outreach Coordinator for UW-Madison's PEOPLE Program, I designed hands-on science curricula for high school students from underrepresented backgrounds, leading interactive sessions featuring brain dissections, anatomy exploration, and vision experiments. I've also worked one-on-one with visually challenged children, adapting learning materials using multi-sensory approaches including Braille scripts and oral instruction. Throughout my graduate training, I mentored students and facilitated collaborative learning through interdisciplinary journal clubs, presenting complex research at national conferences.
My teaching philosophy centers on personalized, inquiry-based learning that celebrates each student's unique strengths. I use hands-on experiments, visual aids, and real-world connections to make abstract concepts tangible, whether I'm tutoring in biology, chemistry, neuroscience, mathematics, or study skills. Having worked with students from elementary through college levels in both individual and group settings, I adapt my methods to match each learner's pace and style.
