Hello! My name is Sureya! I am a recent high school graduate with honors and over five years of tutoring experience. In high school, I was a Dual Enrollment, Honors, and Advanced Placement student. I am now an incoming college student planning to study aerospace engineering. From the time I was ten years old, I knew I wanted to be an aerospace engineer, but as I got older, I also realized something else: I have a passion for tutoring others. It is a great reward to bring my strengths and passion to other students.

Over the past five years, I have tutored a variety of subjects, including SAT math, Prealgebra, Algebra 1, Latin, Team Policy Debate, and Mock Trial. My homeschool co-op has also invited me to serve as a substitute teacher. My experience in tutoring includes both working and volunteering. I have a background in online, in-person, one-on-one, and group tutoring. For the most part, my students have been in grades 8-12. I have received glowing feedback from both parents and students in the past.

My tutoring style is casual but effective. I always start by getting to know my students before diving into problems together. Students have a much easier time learning if they have a strong connection with their tutor. During each session, I review practice examples, essential concepts, problem-solving techniques, sentence structures, etc., depending on the subject. I always lay a solid foundation of knowledge before building on my student's understanding. Each session is geared toward sharpening my student's strengths and improving their weaknesses.

I have learned so much from my students. Every pupil has a different way of analyzing, thinking about, solving problems, identifying false arguments, and evaluating sentence structures. My students have always been creative, attentive, and eager to learn. Each student is a joy to tutor, and I will do my very best to help you succeed in any path you choose. Over the past few years, I have tutored middle and high school students in the art of Debate, including Mock Trial, Public Forum Debates, Team Policy Debates, and Lincoln Douglas Debates. I have tutored individual students and groups of up to six students. I have also participated in a great number of formal debates myself. In my lessons, I focus on outlining the process of each type of debate. I also concentrate on how to find compelling evidence, how to strategically place each point, and techniques to create logical, passionate, and convincing arguments. I have tutored around 25 students in this unique art and am excited to increase that number!

Throughout middle and high school, I intensely studied Latin (including taking college-level courses). I translated sections of many ancient documents, including works by Caesar, Cicero, and Virgil. Over the past five years, I have tutored Latin to elementary, middle, and high school students, focusing on grammar, vocabulary, sentence structure, noun/verb endings, and (of course) having fun! It is a passion of mine to bring the nearly lost language of Latin to life.

I am an experienced PSAT and SAT prep tutor. I generally tutor SAT prep, which is very similar to PSAT prep, as the PSAT as a preparatory test for the SAT. I achieved a score in the 98th percentile of all test takers when I completed the SAT. I have also completed Honors Geometry, Honors Algebra, Honors Precalculus, AP Calculus BC, and am studying Multivariable Calculus. Since November 2024, I have tutored over 13 students in preparing for the SAT and have received extremely positive feedback. Many of my students' scores have improved by a significant amount. I have also tutored students in PSAT prep. When tutoring this subject, I provide personalized tips, feedback, and advice from my own experience. During each lesson, I focus on allowing my students to think for themselves and give them to time to puzzle out practice problems. This way they build a strong basis of confidence and ability. My public speaking experience is extensive, including Mock Trial, Team Policy Debate, Lincoln Douglas Debate, Senior Thesis Defense, persuasive speeches, impromptu speeches, research presentations, advocacy speeches, and storytelling. Presenting dramatic interpretations of ancient poetry, Shakespeare plays, and Greek and Roman literature is also one of my expertise. My speeches have also earned high grades from college professors. I received specific feedback which has led to my improvement, and I would love to share that feedback with my students! Over the past few years, I have tutored middle and high school students (ranging from one-on-one to groups of up to six students) in the art of public speaking. In my lessons, I focus on bringing out the strengths of each of my students. No two people are the exact same in the way they present a speech, and I help each of my students find their unique voice. I perfect the art of hand motions, voice inflections, pacing, eye contact, and timing in my students. My goal is to help them reach a level of public speaking that will allow them to capture their audience with the magical power of words.

I achieved a score in the 98th percentile of all test takers when I completed the SAT. Sureya has been teaching my children (ages 8, 10, 11) Latin twice weekly and they always look forward to their lessons with her. She is patient, well prepared and keeps them all engaged in a subject that could otherwise be dull!
