I have my certification in ELA + ELL for grades 6-12 and I've worked with middle school, high school, and college students respectively for over a decade....

My name is Tia / Ms. R, and I am a writing and rhetoric teacher dedicated to helping people find their voice and/or use it effectively. I graduated with my Master's in Education from the University of Washington Seattle after receiving my BA in English and Communication from the University of Nebraska! I have my certification in ELA + ELL for grades 6-12 and I've worked with middle school, high school, and college students respectively for over a decade.
I'm both an AP teacher and an AP Essay Reader / Scorer for the CollegeBoard with a knack for simplifying specific and tangible ways you can grow as a writer and/or score higher. Whether you are new to the course, wanting to raise your multiple choice scores, or struggling to strengthen commentary, we can get you exactly where you need to go.
When I am not teaching AP, you can find me coaching a nationally recognized Mock Trial program. I love helping with developing theories of the case, writing speeches, crafting direct and cross examinations, teaching the rules of evidence, practicing courtroom etiquette, and making and responding to objections.Â
Before Mock Trial, I spent 8 years on competitive speech teams (POE, POI, DI, HI, PRO, OID, DUO, OO, & INF) and 5 years as a coach, collecting numerous awards and championship titles along the way.
While the context changes, the work remains the same. It’s a gift to watch clients grow as they build confidence, incorporate natural gestures/movement, and leverage pacing, tone, eye contact, volume, inflection, etc to bring their words to life.
Whatever we work on, it is my mission to uplift your natural strengths while helping you build skills and access the tools you’ve been missing. Our sessions will be tailored to your specific hopes and needs, and as an established teacher, I, of course, have *many* detailed resources, practices, and lessons in my repertoire to share.Â
