I graduated with my Master's in Education from the University of Washington Seattle after receiving my BA in English from the University of Nebraska! I have my certification in ELA + ELL for grades 6-12 and I've worked with middle school, high school, and college students respectively for over a decade.
In addition to teaching over 130 AP Lang students, I'm an AP Essay Reader / Scorer for the CollegeBoard with expertise in giving detailed feedback grounded in rubric language. I primarily support building writing stamina, strengthening essay organization / line of reasoning, and assessing / scoring work, but I also offer targeted feedback to raise scores, supplemental MCQ + FRQ resources and practices, as well as general strategies to boost exam scores.
I run a nationally recognized Mock Trial program and offer support in creating teams, writing speeches, crafting direct and cross examinations, learning the rules of evidence, and making objections and impeachments.
I spent 8 years on competitive speech teams (POE, POI, DI, HI, PRO, OID, DUO, OO, & INF) and 5 years as a coach winning championships and awards at local, state, and national competitions. I primarily offer performance coaching, but can assist in topic selection, sourcing scripts and sources, as well as drafting, splicing, cutting, etc.
I care about what you bring to the table! To make our sessions as effective as possible, we will always identify your needs + goals, as well as methods that may feel ineffective for you. As an established teacher, I, of course, have many resources and scaffolds in my repertoire that I am happy to share as an additional support outside our sessions.
I am proud of you for taking this step + seeking support. Don't hesitate to reach out if you think we'd be a good fit!
