Hello and welcome! My name is Shae, and I am thrilled you’ve decided to check out my profile! I know from personal experience that asking for help can be a hard thing to do, and it can be even harder deciding who to ask, so thank you for considering asking me.
As a tutor, I lead with compassion, patience, and an open mind. I myself am a queer identifying, nontraditional student, and I am currently pursuing a degree in animation, so I know what it feels like to learn new things. I am a lifelong learner, and have spent many years sharing my love of education with others.
My journey as a tutor began with my first full time job working as a high school SPED Assistant. I had the opportunity to help students with various learning disabilities both one-on-one and in the classroom, and it was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. It was during this time that I learned that every student has different strengths, interests, and talents that make them unique, and that tutoring is less about covering course material, and more about finding creative ways to bridge the gap between knowing, and understanding.
After this, I went on to tutor students from elementary age to adulthood in a variety of subjects, including vocabulary, algebra, reading, writing, grammar, proofreading, history, art, design, technology, and more. I’ve been trained in inclusive instructional design, and have spent time building training materials and plans from scratch.
I approach every new student with a clean slate, and while I may pull from my bag of tricks to help work some learning magic, our tutoring sessions will always be customized to fit your individual and unique needs. I will work to find out what is important to you and what strategies help you learn, so that we can create a space that is safe, free of shame, and rewarding for both you and me! If this sounds good to you, then please, don’t be afraid to ask me for help!
