Hello! I’m Akshaya, a chess player and online chess tutor with a FIDE Elo rating of 2014 and a USCF rating of 1991. I’ve been passionate about chess since I was 9 and competed in tournaments until 2016. Throughout my journey, I’ve had the privilege of working with exceptional players and chess coaches. I’ve trained individuals aged 5 to 40. In addition to providing one-on-one sessions tailored to each player's individual strengths and weaknesses, I also welcome group lessons. I hold an engineering degree and worked as an Android application developer from 2016 to 2020.

My lesson plans are tailored for Beginner Level 1 (new to chess), Beginner Level 2 (those familiar with movements, check, and checkmate), and Rising Competitors (players with a FIDE Elo or USCF rating up to 1500, or players who actively compete on chess platforms), with each session beginning with warm-up puzzles and homework assigned at the end of each class to reinforce learning.

Some of my notable accomplishments include winning the Silver Medal in the Asian Youth Chess Championship 2010 (U-16 Girls) in Beijing, China, and securing the Gold Medal in the U-17 Girls National Chess Championship 2010 in Jammu, India. I also earned the Bronze Medal in the U-17 Girls National Chess Championship 2011 in Pondicherry, India. Additionally, I achieved consecutive Gold Medals at the SGFI National Teams (2008, 2009, and 2010) in India. I was honored as the "Best Girl - Tamil Nadu Player" at the Chennai Open Grandmaster Tournament. I also won the U-17 State Chess Championship Title in 2010 in Tirupur and the State Junior Chess Championship Title in 2012 in Coimbatore. Furthermore, I had the honor of competing as a Premier Women’s League Player in the National A category in India.

Kid enjoyed her lesson

Knowledgable and encouraging tutor

Akshaya started with an introduction to chess and the basics, such as the board setup, the movement of pieces, capturing pieces, and check and checkmate using the Queen and Rook. Akshaya was knowledgeable and explained the concepts using puzzles. She was patient and encouraged me to try different options, explaining the reasoning behind each one. At the end of the session, she gave homework puzzles to practice more on the learned concepts. With this session, I learned how to use waiting moves to avoid stalemates and great strategies to checkmate with the Queen and Rook.
