I am a budding Data Scientist and recent masters graduate from Indiana University Bloomington in Data Science. My undergraduate program was B.E. Mechanical Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology & Science, Pilani, India. I have tutoring experience from both these esteemed universities totaling a year. Six months of those were assisting fresh undergraduates (aged 18-20) in Math and Physics as a Teaching Assistant. It was a classroom setting of about 15 students per teacher, but involved mainly one-on-one interactions. Some broader doubts would need to be explained to the group. I also spent another 6 months being an Associate Instructor in Machine Learning for graduate (age 23-28) students. These involved 4 hours of one-on-one sessions per week where students would roll in and out asking their queries.
My approach that I have developed as I got more experience is always guiding the student towards deeper understanding of the subject, rather than spoon-feeding. Most of the time, the answer is jumbled up in our brains, and asking the right questions helps unravel it all. I am aiming to move onto the next step of my tutoring journey as I'm confident it will be ever more rewarding and fulfilling.
