I'm Destiny!

I graduated with my Master's in Library Science and my Bachelor's from in Elementary Education. When I was going to school in Portland, I realized that I truly enjoyed teaching students the basics, but also helping them with subjects that were a bit more difficult. Specifically, I enjoyed teaching students about science, writing, and spelling. I student taught 5th grade for 4 months and 3rd graders for a year and a half as I was learning to become a teacher.

Then, I became a 7th-grade teacher for two years. There, I taught all the major subjects: math, reading, writing, science, and social studies. I enjoyed working with students one on one but also helping students with projects. Though I enjoyed being a 7th-grade teacher, my love of elementary education continued to grow. Then, I became a Kindergarten teacher for one year. There I got to work to foster students' love of reading and specifically help them become lovers of learning. It was a great experience, but I determined I enjoyed 1-1 teaching instead of whole classroom teaching.

I have been tutoring reading for K-8th grade students for 4+ years. When I was tutoring in person, I helped students grasp concepts through hands-on learning. I also helped by coming up with creative solutions for students that were struggling. Some subjects that I was tasked to tutor were Algebra 1, Elementary Science, Basic Elementary Skills, Spelling, and Writing, among many others.

I created a study skills curriculum that was used in a major tutoring company in the Milwaukee area. I tutored 20 students during the summer on their study skills and helped many of them to navigate through their years of middle and high school with that program. I consider this to be my best subject and my most successful subject.
