Hello! I’m an English major at American Public University. Whether you are a native speaker or one who desires to learn English as a second language, I can help. As a former ESOL tutor volunteer for the Literacy Council of Northern Virginia, I have experience in tutoring non-English speakers; however, as an English major and co-organizer of the Springfield Writer’s Group, I’m also experienced in critiquing and copy editing fiction and non-fiction, which includes essays. I take online classes, so my schedule is quite flexible. In fact, I am available seven days a week. I live in the Springfield, Virginia area, but I’m willing to travel to D.C. and Maryland. Please note, that any travel that exceeds 20 miles, rates will go up accordingly, but they will still be affordable, as I believe that money should never deter one’s learning, especially when it comes to a language that is spoken globally.
Nevertheless, words are meaningless without proper context, which is why my tutoring methods are visual and interactive. The student will never be lost and left to try to figure out something on his or her own. I understand that not everyone learns in the same manner, which is why I allow the student to dictate what learning technique works best for him or her. If you prefer in-person or Skype tutoring, I am more than happy to accommodate you. Please be aware that I am here to help, not to do the work for the student. Remember, in order to learn a new skill, it takes practice. Therefore, I am patient and I ask the same of the student. English, as with any language, is difficult to master, which is a feat I have yet to achieve, and I’ve been writing for over a decade! However, this is normal. Any writer will tell you that language is virtually impossible to conquer, as it tends to morph with time, leaving the writer to strive to keep up with its transcendence.
