Dozens more have passed tests like these plus the Accuplacer, ALEKS, IBEW, PERT, and TSI after just one lesson.

Many of my students have failed their tests one or more times before we met. After our lessons, I have had students raise their overall ASVAB score from 22 to 77 and OAR score from 35 to 50, and their math scores on the AFOQT from 1 to 78, on the TEAS from 50 to 84, on the HESI from 34 to 92, and on the TSI from 930 to 976.

How have they done this? I teach students time management strategies, such as how to answer math problems without solving them. I show them how to use word arithmetic to break down unfamiliar words and recognize verbal analogies. Rather than giving them the answers, I use the Socratic Method to elicit the answers from them.

Approved Subjects

Accuplacer

Accuplacer

I have a decade of experience providing tutoring for state and college placement tests. I familiarize students with the content on the PERT, and the Regents and SOL algebra exams to enable them to achieve high scores. My most recent PERT math student went from 112 to 130 after just 3 lessons, and my most recent Regents Algebra I student earned an 82 after just 1 lesson. The shortcuts I teach help students to avoid taking the TSI math Diagnostic and to score high enough on the Accuplacer and ALEKS placement test to avoid taking remedial math and to test into advanced math. In just 1 lesson each, my most recent TSI math student went from 930 to 976, one of my ALEKS students earned a 96%, and one of my Accuplacer students scored 285. The strategies I provide to CLEP college math, college algebra, precalculus, and calculus students help them to pass these exams and save time and money during their collegiate experience. If you are seeking an experienced college algebra instructor and test prep tutor, then contact me today to reach your educational goals.
AFOQT

AFOQT

I have provided 3,200+ hours of AFOQT and OAR tutoring on Wyzant and helped 140+ students pass the math and verbal sections. More than half of them failed to earn the minimums prior to meeting with me, but saw double-digit score increases afterwards. I deliver immediate results. My most recent OAR student went from 46 to 54 after just 1 lesson. My most recent AFOQT student raised his Quantitative score from 4 to 53 after 5 lessons. Another improved his score from 1 to 78 after only 2 lessons, and one increased his Verbal score from 11 to 50 after just 4 lessons. I teach time-saving strategies to answer math problems without solving them, to use word arithmetic to break down difficult vocabulary words, and to use process of elimination to answer verbal analogies. Students only get up to 3 lifetime attempts on the AFOQT and OAR, and these tests are more complex and fast-paced than the ASVAB. Hence, I only use accurate, up-to-date materials so students don’t squander one of these attempts and waste time reviewing items that won’t be tested. If you are seeking an experienced, patient, well-prepared tutor, then contact me to reach your professional aspirations.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

My experience includes working as a college algebra instructor in the math emporium and assisting students with understanding and completing their assignments in ALEKS, IXL, and other learning modules. I have also helped prepare students for the CLEP College Algebra, Regents and SOL Algebra 1 exams. I patiently explain algebra problems step-by-step in easily understandable terms to middle and high school students taking algebra for the first time or college and adult learners who need a refresher. They all leave each lesson equipped with the tools and knowledge necessary to break down and understand Algebra 1 problems.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

As both a college algebra instructor and private algebra 2 tutor, I have assisted numerous students with reviewing algebra 1 concepts and learning new algebra 2 concepts such as imaginary and complex numbers, logarithms, and function transformations. I have also introduced them to trigonometry and precalculus topics. I sharpen their problem-solving and mathematical-modeling skills so they can solve problems involving topics like quadratics and projectile motion, or exponential functions and compound interest.
ASVAB

ASVAB

Since 2017, I have provided over 1,000 ASVAB tutoring hours on Wyzant. I began tutoring 30 years ago as an undergraduate in my college's math lab. Then, I was a college algebra instructor in the math emporium. My students often ask why their teachers didn't explain math as simply as I do or show them the shortcuts that I do. It's not necessary to "show your work" on the ASVAB, so I demonstrate how to use backsolving, process of elimination, and plugging in numbers for the math sections. I helped my most recent student with algebra, and he raised his score from 22 to 77 after only 5 lessons. Another went from 22 to 59 in less than 2 weeks. I also demonstrate how to use affixes and root words to master the word knowledge section and how to look for clues to master paragraph comprehension. One of my students went from 68 to 83 after 1 lesson each for the math and verbal sections. On average, my students’ scores increase by 20 points in fewer than 6 lessons.
Calculus

Calculus

I have spent numerous semesters as a Calculus 1 tutor in my college's math lab. I also have spent years as a private, 1:1 high school AP Calculus AB tutor. I teach students how to evaluate limits, derivatives, and integrals, but the most important thing I do is to help them understand the concepts behind each problem.
HESI (Nursing exam)

HESI (Nursing exam)

I provide HESI math students with a combination of test strategies such as backsolving, process of elimination, mnemonic devices, and calculator tips to save time and answer many HESI math questions with minimal effort and maximum results. All but 2 of them have earned between 88 and 100% math scores. The 2 who didn’t went from 42 to 76% and 34 to 92%. I also explain how to distinguish between phrases and clauses, and how to identify sentence types by the number and type of clauses they contain. With 18 years of experience as a healthcare professional, I also show students how to use affixes and root words to master HESI A2 vocabulary and distinguish between commonly confused homophones.

SSAT

SSAT

I tutor the SSAT math and verbal sections. Every day, I provide test prep strategies to help students improve their quantitative, vocabulary, and verbal analogies skills. The time-saving strategies I teach to students have helped them to double and triple their prior scores.
TEAS

TEAS

As a former college algebra instructor, I teach students how to solve the equations and word problems on the TEAS and in their prerequisite math courses. I provide them with strategies such as backsolving, process of elimination, and calculator tips to save time, minimize effort, and maximize results. Two of my TEAS students have earned 100% math scores. I also explain how to recognize sentence types by the number and type of clauses they contain, and I break down all of the complex rules of spelling, capitalization, and vocabulary to help students score well on the English and Language Usage section. Two of my recent TEAS students have earned scores of 89 and 90% on this section.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

I teach students about right-triangle trigonometry, the Unit Circle, periodic functions, the Laws of Sines and Cosines, and other trig concepts. Some Algebra 2 classes only briefly discuss these topics, but I provide students with a deeper understanding of function transformations, angle conversions, trig identities, and other trig topics.

Extremely patient tutor

Michael has done a great job of tutoring me for my AFOQT. I put in a lot of work and time but he helped me raise my quantitative score from a 4 to a 53. Michael is extremely patient and provides many great resources, tips, and tricks for the AFOQT. Having him as a tutor was money well spent and I recommend him to anyone looking to do well on the AFOQT.

Amazing Help With The Navy’s OAR Exam

Michael was great to work with. At first, I tried to take the OAR with no additional resources and achieved a 46. I struggled with the math section on the OAR in particular. With Michael’s support, I managed to achieve a 54. He was professional, patient, thorough, and most of all, caring. I could tell that he really cared how well I was grasping everything and he followed up with me after my 2nd attempt to see how I did. In addition, he has an excellent ability at explaining math concepts in a very digestible way. Highly recommend!

Incredible Tutor

Michael was extremely professional, very patient, and knowledgeable. The way he explained things made everything click, he gave a purpose to every explanation and that helped me visualize and comprehend what he was explaining. He gave me tips and tricks for how to eliminate incorrect answers to help narrow it down to the correct one. I've only had one session with him but I will definitely be taking more sessions.

Very Helpful and Patient!! Highly Recommend

I had a fantastic first experience with Michael as my tutor, and I can't recommend him enough. I was quite embarrassed to admit that I had forgotten a lot of math skills and had to relearn a significant portion of the material. However, Michael immediately reassured me that it's completely normal when you haven't used a skill in a while, which helped me stay focused. In just one session, I learned so much and regained confidence in the math skills covered in the first session. Michael explained short cuts and quicker methods for solving problems after going through the more traditional ways. He was incredibly patient, especially when I needed time to think, and he took the time to review problems I was unsure of. When I mentioned a concept I was struggling with, he quickly provided multiple ways to approach and solve the problem. I can’t wait for my next session! I highly recommend him as an AFOQT tutor. I know with more sessions I will be able to pass the AFOQT.

Cindy, 10 lessons with Michael
Tutor responded:

Thank you so much for this favorable review! I often tell students that math skills are like anything else. Use it or lose it. It's often not the case that students do not know how to perform math and arithmetic operations. It's usually a matter of them not using them in a while, so they have forgotten and need to refresh their skills. It's also true that not everyone learns the same way, and that is why I try to demonstrate multiple approaches to solving a math problem.
