Bio

I have a bachelor's degree in Mathematics and a decade of experience as a successful math and test prep tutor. Over 100 of my students have passed the AFOQT, ASVAB, HESI, OAR, and TEAS and raised their scores by 10 to 70 points. Dozens more have passed tests like these plus the Accuplacer, ALEKS, IBEW, PERT, and TSI after just one lesson.

I have a bachelor's degree in Mathematics and a decade of experience as a successful math and test prep tutor. Over 100 of my students have passed the AFOQT, ASVAB, HESI, OAR, and TEAS and raised their scores by 10 to 70 points. Dozens more have passed tests like these plus the Accuplacer, ALEKS, IBEW, PERT, and TSI after just one lesson.

Many of my students have failed their tests one or more times before we met. After our lessons, I have had students raise their overall ASVAB score from 22 to 77 and OAR score from 35 to 50, and their math scores on the AFOQT from 1 to 78, on the TEAS from 50 to 84, on the HESI from 34 to 92, and on the TSI from 930 to 976.

How have they done this? I teach students time management strategies, such as how to answer math problems without solving them. I show them how to use word arithmetic to break down unfamiliar words and recognize verbal analogies. Rather than giving them the answers, I use the Socratic Method to elicit the answers from them.

I have a decade of experience providing tutoring for state and college placement tests. I familiarize students with the content on the PERT, and the Regents and SOL algebra exams to enable them to achieve high scores. The shortcuts I teach help students to avoid taking the TSI math Diagnostic and to score high enough on the Accuplacer and ALEKS placement test to avoid taking remedial math and to test into advanced math. The strategies I provide to CLEP college math, college algebra, precalculus, and calculus students help them to pass these exams and save time and money during their collegiate experience.
AFOQT

AFOQT

I’ve helped over 140 students pass the AFOQT Quantitative and Verbal sections and the OAR. More than half of my AFOQT rated and non-rated students previously failed to earn the minimums, but saw double-digit score increases after our lessons. I share time-saving tips to help students quickly multiply and divide, factor polynomials, solve word problems, and answer all other AFOQT math knowledge, arithmetic reasoning, and OAR math problems. I also show students how to use affixes and root words to improve their word knowledge skills and how to use process of elimination and other techniques to answer verbal analogy questions.
Algebra 1

I patiently explain algebra concepts step-by-step in easily understandable terms. My approach is adaptable to middle and high school students taking algebra for the first time or college and adult learners who might need a refresher for their prerequisite courses. My students leave each lesson equipped with the tools and knowledge necessary to break down and understand algebra concepts such as solving and graphing single and multi-variable equations or factoring polynomials. I assist them with understanding their assignments in ALEKS and other learning modules. I also prepare them for their algebra 1 midterm and EOC exams.

I have a decade of experience helping introduce students to the more advanced functions discussed in Algebra 2 and College Algebra. I assist them with understanding concepts such as imaginary and complex numbers, logarithms, function transformations, and trigonometry, so that they may apply this knowledge to their assignments in ALEKS and other learning modules. I sharpen each student's problem-solving skills to help them model and solve Algebra 2 problems involving topics like quadratics and projectile motion, or exponential functions and compound interest.
ASVAB

What separates me from other tutors is that I explain complex topics clearly for even the most impenetrable students to understand. I design succinct, customized lesson plans to improve students’ algebra, geometry, and word problem skills. I teach them how to use affixes and root words to strengthen their word knowledge. I show them clues to look for and shortcuts to use to navigate the paragraph comprehension section quicker. I also share strategies such as backsolving, process of elimination, and plugging in numbers to boost students' AFQT, PiCAT, MAGE, GT and other line scores.

I have spent numerous semesters as a Calculus 1 tutor in my college's math lab. I also have spent years as a private, 1:1 high school AP Calculus AB tutor. I provide HESI math students with a combination of test strategies such as backsolving, process of elimination, mnenonic devices, and calculator tips to save time and answer many HESI math questions with minimal effort and maximum results up to 100% math scores. I also explain how to distinguish between phrases and clauses, and how to identify sentence types by the number and type of clauses they contain. I also show students how to use affixes and root words to master HESI A2 vocabulary and distinguish between commonly confused homophones.

I have a decade of experience as an algebra instructor and test prep tutor. During that time, I have taught and tutored many students in HSPT topics such as geometry, statistics, verbal analogies, vocabulary, punctuation, parts of speech, and the complex rules of spelling and capitalization.

I help IBEW students with PEMDAS, slope-intercept form, sequences, and all other math concepts on the IBEW aptitude test. I provide test strategies to quickly evaluate algebraic expressions, solve algebraic equations, and analyze linear functions. I tutor ISEE Middle and Upper Level Math. I have a decade of experience as an algebra instructor and test prep tutor assisting students from elementary school to college in math and English. As a former community college algebra instructor, I teach students how to solve the equations on the TEAS and in their prerequisite courses. Amazing Help With The Navy’s OAR Exam

Michael was great to work with. At first, I tried to take the OAR with no additional resources and achieved a 46. I struggled with the math section on the OAR in particular. With Michael’s support, I managed to achieve a 54. He was professional, patient, thorough, and most of all, caring. I could tell that he really cared how well I was grasping everything and he followed up with me after my 2nd attempt to see how I did. In addition, he has an excellent ability at explaining math concepts in a very digestible way. Highly recommend!

Incredible Tutor

Michael was extremely professional, very patient, and knowledgeable. The way he explained things made everything click, he gave a purpose to every explanation and that helped me visualize and comprehend what he was explaining. I had a fantastic first experience with Michael as my tutor, and I can't recommend him enough. I was quite embarrassed to admit that I had forgotten a lot of math skills and had to relearn a significant portion of the material. It's often not the case that students do not know how to perform math and arithmetic operations. It's usually a matter of them not using them in a while, so they have forgotten and need to refresh their skills. It's also true that not everyone learns the same way, and that is why I try to demonstrate multiple approaches to solving a math problem.

Michael was awesome. I am studying for the AFOQT and my weakness is in the Math areas. Michael sent me some practice questions and we worked through some of the problems I struggled with.
