Hi, I'm Heather! I am a certified tutor with several years' experience, both in and out of the classroom. My experience and expertise includes 7th Grade Math thru PreCalculus, including Trigonometry and Geometry. And in my 19+ years of experience, I have helped many students gain the necessary skills and confidence in their ability to do math and be successful in their studies.

I began tutoring math at Yavapai College in Arizona in 2001, at which time I also received Tutor Certification through the College Reading and Learning Association. At YC I tutored Beginning Algebra through PreCalculus. While most students I worked with learned just what they needed to be successful in their courses, one of my students in particular earned her first ever "A" in math. As a result of this experience, she gained confidence in her ability to do well and needed very little help from that point forward. I believe that my job as a tutor is to "work my way out of a job" - in other words, to help students build the confidence and skills needed to succeed on their own to the extent that is possible. That was the case with this student. I also earned the Outstanding Tutor Award while working in the Learning Center at YC.

In August 2006, I moved to Utah and began working as a substitute teacher in Alpine School District. Almost immediately, I was asked to sub long term teaching Algebra 1 & Geometry in a high school. Since that time, I have worked as an hourly teacher, a sub and a math aide in grades 7-12 throughout ASD, in addition to being a private tutor. In this capacity, I have taught and tutored topics from PreAlgebra through PreCalculus, and Geometry (currently known as Intermediate Math 1 & 2, and Secondary Math 1-3 in the Utah State Mathematics Core). Through these experiences, I have become quite familiar with what students need to know as part of the Utah State Mathematics Core, as well as what skills they must have as they progress through each level of math. I've also learned what skills many students seem to struggle wi

While working towards my degree in Mathematics Education, I took several upper level math courses, which in turn helped me understand lower level concepts. Since 2001, I've successfully tutored College students in Beginning Algebra thru College Algebra/PreCalculus. And since 2006, I've taught and tutored math students in Middle & High School (7th thru 12th grades, with topics ranging from PreAlgebra thru Algebra 2, Geometry, and Trigonometry). Students I've worked with have all been more successful in their math courses.

Geometry

While working towards my degree in Mathematics Education, I was required to take a Geometry course which covered Euclidean (plane) & non-Euclidean Geometries - primarily through proofs. Since 2006, I have also taught high school Geometry (before the switch to the spiraled core) and have taught & tutored 7th thru 11th grade spiraled core mathematics (which all include geometry topics).

Trigonometry

Trig is so awesome! It allows us to use what we know about various types of triangles to find unknown values! What's more, it simply builds on what we already know about basic math and algebra. My college degree program was in Mathematics Education, where I studied many mathematics topics in more depth. Since 2001, I've successfully tutored College students in PreCalculus (including Trig). And since 2006, I've taught and tutored High School math students (9th thru 12th grades, which includes topics in Trigonometry). Students I've worked with have all been more successful in their math courses. Let me help you understand Trigonometry better!

My daughter had a great experience with Heather!

My soon to be 7th grader described her session with Heather as " Fun" I'd never in a million years think she would've had this experience and especially on the first go.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Helped me understand the day’s lessons quickly and in a different way than I would have perceived it. I am taking the BMCC Math Start program which consists of a lot of pre algebra/algebra. Patient, good sense of humor.

Knowledgeable, patient, caring and dedicated

Heather is helping my son with Pre-Cal and my daughter with Pre-Algebra. Heather's method of teaching, her understanding of kids of all ages, use of technology and her overall approach makes her a great tutor. I interviewed other companies with branches nationwide, as well as smaller local companies and I can say without a doubt I made the right decision going with Heather. I highly recommend Heather as she uses online learning in a way which kids are intrigued and want to learn. Thank you so much Heather.

Great first tutoring session

My daughter had a good tutoring session with Heather. We have already scheduled sessions for the next 2 weeks! I’m looking forward to my daughter confidence level in math going to another level. My daughter left her tutoring session confident enough to score a 90% on her math quiz after her first session with Heather! Thank you
