Hi NORTH DALLAS/DALLAS SUBURBS!!

At 90+ Wyzant platform CHEMISTRY-MATH reviews (46 each associated with anywhere from 10 and up through 150 student lessons actually conducted) and creator of the Mexiterrasian Dietary Food Pyramid, I'm down-to-earth, quite the jokester, trustworthy, and nutritionally-/medically-focused PHD PROFESSIONAL ORGANIC CHEMIST, DR BRUCE. Having opted for CHEMISTRY as my career choice in high school, I've since progressed to providing solid academic and emotional support for self-driven PRE-MED/DENTAL/PHARMACY/PUBLIC HEALTH students. I foster student mastery of PRECALCULUS, HONORS/IB ALGEBRA 2+HONORS, ON-RAMPS, AP, IB (SL, HL) CHEMISTRY, GENERAL+ORGANIC CHEMISTRY and NUTRITIONAL BIOCHEMISTRY.

Additionally, for MCAT, PCAT or DAT students I provide further clarity for GENERAL AND/OR ORGANIC CHEMISTRY and, if needed, ALGEBRA, GEOMETRY and TRIGONOMETRY for the PCAT and DAT, as well.

My greatest positive impacts upon students will definitely be felt through regular, ongoing schedules of meetups. Several successful partnerships have endured anywhere from 2 and up through 5 years and have involved both multiple subjects per student and/or multiple siblings per family.

My approaches for enabling students to obtain their best CHEMISTRY-MATH courses grades include providing exceptionally clear, step-wise auditory explanations simultaneously accompanied by relevant visual aids, as needed. These methods virtually always elicit the comments "THAT MAKES SENSE" or "GOT IT" and also help sharpen students' critical thinking abilities.

As a strong advocate for student achievement, please see what sets me apart from many other capable Wyzant tutors by going to "Ratings and Reviews" and evaluating the applicable ADVANCED HS CHEMISTRY, GENERAL CHEMISTRY, ORGANIC CHEMISTRY AND ALGEBRA 2 testimonial(s) and my customized responses. Then, kindly reach out to me as that all-important first step toward minimizing your stress and ultimately becoming my next actual success story.

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I easily deal with the following topics routinely covered in a regular or advanced middle or high school Algebra 1 course: handling equations (particularly in word problems), solving inequalities, explaining a variety of functions (including graphical interpretation), solving systems of linear equations and linear inequalities, handling exponents and polynomials, factoring polynomials, handling exponential and radical functions, and dealing with rational functions and equations. As additional resources I possess an Algebra 1 "Teacher's Edition" text and a large assortment of supplemental assignments to provide for my students.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I encourage direct contacts for prompt help with your HONORS-IB ALGEBRA 2/ADV CHEMISTRY (2,800+ total hours, also check out CHEMISTRY qualifications) struggles. ALGEBRA 2 topics easily handled include word problems, properties of logarithms and exponents (both used in AP, IB and GENERAL CHEMISTRY), solving two- and three-variable linear systems, quadratic, absolute value, logarithmic, exponential and radical equations, factoring polynomials, simplifying expressions involving both radicals and complex numbers, and describing the behavior (domain, range, zeroes, presence of asymptotes) of a variety of functions to include quadratic, absolute value, rational, inverse, logarithmic, exponential and their transformed versions. Conic sections is also a familiar area of expertise. I am particular knowledgeable with the ALGEBRA 2 curricula taught in both the Plano (curriculum hasn't changed much since the 2015/2016 school year) and Richardson school districts. In addition, as readily available resources I have an ALGEBRA 2 "Teacher's Edition" text and supplemental assignments on a number of topics to hand out to students to help them better-prepare for quizzes and unit tests. At the beginning of each school year I will provide my newly-acquired students with several diagnostic ALGEBRA 2 readiness tests to help remediate any skill deficiencies carrying over from Algebra 1. And lastly, I will also be glad to work with any student who desires to fulfill his/her ALGEBRA 2 requirement by doing CBE.

Naturally, I will strengthen GENERAL CHEMISTRY deficiency areas when providing a jump-start to any student in advance of taking ORGANIC. Concerning AP CHEMISTRY and the many years over which I've successfully dealt with it, I have become quite heartened to have seen many more students having chosen to take this course starting in the 10th grade whether by direct entrance or having done CREDIT BY EXAM to opt-out of PRE-AP/HONORS CHEMISTRY. Needless to say, I continue to apply my detail-oriented nature (while interjecting many teachable moments on the spot) in a step-wise fashion to enhance understanding for ANY AP topic. Having begun back in my teens successfully tutoring HONORS-LEVEL GEOMETRY, for which I love providing the proper step-wise guidance, I easily handle any topic, including numerous types of applications problems, covered in a Regular or Advanced GEOMETRY course. This entails, for example, determining unknown angle measures or segment lengths in a variety of situations, training in inductive, deductive and proportional reasoning, demonstrating the various methods for proving polygons both congruent and similar, determining the lateral and total surface areas and also volumes of regular shapes and areas of irregular ones, carrying out 2-column proofs, recognizing the relationships between various angles and line segments associated with circles, and making the connections between Algebra in one or two unknowns and a wide variety of GEOMETRY concepts in word problem situations. A favorite pairing of subjects with which I am very effective in concurrently tutoring students is GEOMETRY with CHEMISTRY. I provide a readily available vast array of supplemental assignments for my students and am quite familiar with the GEOMETRY curricula taught in several Dallas northern suburban school districts such as Plano and Richardson. I will also be glad to work with any student who desires to complete his/her GEOMETRY requirement by doing CBE.
Prealgebra,

Prealgebra is that critical point between the student's prior math experiences and the more challenging upcoming courses in Algebra and Geometry. With my skill set in the basic handling of numbers and the symbolic representation of numbers and ideas, I will build up the confidence level of the student through patience, encouragement and practice. This boost will establish a strong foundation for successfully navigating future courses. I also use a PREALGEBRA assessment packet to gauge student readiness for handling their next course in Algebra 1. Performance exceeding 90% was achieved on the Texas State Educator's Gr. 4-8 Math Exam.
Precalculus,

Precalculus

With Precalculus I am proficient with general functions and graphs, polynomial, rational, radical, absolute value, exponential, logarithmic and trigonometric functions and their various transformations, solving polynomial, rational, radical and absolute value inequalities, factoring higher order polynomials, arithmetic and geometric sequences and their sums, fundamental trigonometric concepts, including the Laws of Sines and Cosines in applications problems, the cosine and sine of angle sum and difference formulas, handling trigonometric identities and polar coordinates, solving trigonometric equations, solving systems of equations in 2 or 3 variables, parametric equations, vectors and their applications, and graphing conic sections.

I have exceptional knowledge (and skill in applying it) in the principles of 21st century macronutrient-/micronutrient-balanced Human Nutrition. Being augmented by my strong General-Organic Chemistry/Nutritional Biochemistry backgrounds, these guidelines have been used to create an international and multi-colored, predominantly plant-based whole foods diet pyramid after having conducted extensive research on the most micronutrient-rich eating patterns followed by the world's healthiest and longest-lived populations. Regular adherence to these practices has provided me with consistently high energy and focusing ability, both of which have been major contributors to my success as a tutor. In sharing the aforementioned knowledge and in addition to my ability to foster the development of heightened critical-thinking abilities during tutoring sessions involving GENERAL and ORGANIC CHEMISTRY, I am a particularly valued asset to those students who aspire to become doctors, dentists, pharmacists, physicians' assistants, RD's, and psychiatrists and many others in the field of Neuroscience who are interested in the effects of food and nutrient synergies in not only maintaining general wellness but also upon cognitive health. I will also provide counsel to those who would like to follow an integrated body systems approach to diet in order to achieve much-improved well-being. My fact sheets entitled "The Maximum Mental Health Diet" are designed around the core principles embodied in my food pyramid and are offered to any client upon request at the first or subsequent tutoring session.

ACT Math,

ACT Math

I have ACT math resources which can be used from the very onset to diagnose students' particular strengths and weaknesses. Skill building strategies in GEOMETRY AND ALGEBRA can then be modeled and implemented to bring students to higher levels of achievement.
MCAT,

MCAT

I have particular expertise in the most important quantitative and qualitative aspects of GENERAL, ORGANIC and BIOCHEMISTRY that are covered in the Chemistry/Physics section of the MCAT and have successfully tutored students who have taken both the DAT and PCAT, as well. Because of this, I can also provide additional assistance with ALGEBRA, GEOMETRY, TRIGONOMETRY AND PRECALCULUS for these two exams. NOTE: Since my background is not in Psychology, Biology, Zoology, Anatomy/ Physiology and Physics, I neither concentrate on these areas of the MCAT nor focus on the CARS.
PSAT,

PSAT

I have PSAT resources that can be used from the very onset to diagnose a student's particular strengths and weakness in basic Math, Algebra and Geometry concepts. Skill building strategies can then be implemented in order to help the student improve in weak areas.
SAT Math

SAT Math

I have multiple SAT resources which can be used from the very onset to diagnose students' particular strengths and weaknesses in GEOMETRY, ALGEBRA and TRIGONOMETRY. Keeping in mind that in a good many instances both ALGEBRAIC reasoning and GEOMETRIC concepts are brought into play within the same SAT MATH problem, the best skill building strategies on simulated tests can then be modeled and implemented in order to improve student achievement. I will also help more than adequately prepare those students who are planning to take the SAT CHEMISTRY subject test.

Bruce H. Is A Rare Find

Bruce H. is a rare find. He is very knowledgeable in such a difficult subject as organic chemistry, but even more importantly, he fosters great enthusiasm for the subject. He always brings and shows articles about chemistry and its many applications. He explains clearly and in detail all concepts and logic. In particular, many concepts from general chemistry are critical to understanding organic chemistry, and Bruce knows which ideas are important and has a talent for teaching them and how they apply. Further, Bruce is very flexible and tries to accommodate your needs. When we needed extra time, he was always willing, even if it meant coming at very early or late hours, even on weekends. He is always very punctual, and you can always rely on him coming on time. He helped my son improve his grades and maintain the higher grades throughout the year they worked together. My son finished Organic chemistry 1 and 2 at UTD with excellent grades. I highly recommend Bruce H. for anybody who needs tutoring in any chemistry subject.

Thank you very much for your kind and prompt feedback following up on my providing the necessary support to your son with the fundamental Trigonometric relationships needed in order to simplify expressions and prove identities contained within these assignments. You received just a taste of how I use a step-wise approach to effectively communicate concepts not only for Advanced HS Math and Chemistry but also for College General and Organic Chemistry for those students headed to medical school. Best wishes for your son's continued academic success. Dr. Bruce

Great Teacher !!

Dr. Bruce is a great teacher. He has helped my daughter with that extra help needed to increase her confidence and understanding of various 10th grade Chemistry topics significantly.

Hi S, Thank you so much for posting your review. You've said what has been echoed many times before, that explaining the more challenging Chemistry topics by using a variety of teaching techniques will simultaneously substantially increase both the student's concept comprehension and overall confidence level. In your daughters case and with my backing during Spring 2023, she was able to finish the 2022/2023 school year with a 90+ average in Honors Chemistry at Jasper HS. She will then continue to perform very well throughout the 2023/2024 school year in AP Chemistry at Plano West SHS with my ongoing support. Dr. Bruce

awesome tutor extremely patient and very knowledgeable

Dr Bruce began tutoring my son in Nov of last year and wow what a difference it has made. He went from barely passing to making high A’s. Dr. Bruce takes his time to explain the theory/solution. Even offering different ways to answer the problem. He has a wealth of knowledge for any learner on any level. Glad we had him as a tutor.

Hi Kaye, Thank you very much for your feedback. You are spot on in terms of what the ultimate payoff for the student ends up being when the tutor's style embraces both patience and step-wise thoroughness in explaining any concept, be it for Algebra 2 (in your son's case), Precalculus, AP Chemistry, and College-level General and Organic Chemistry. Best wishes to your son for his continued academic success. Dr. Bruce

Well rounded and knowledgeable tutor

When I began SMU and saw how difficult the chemistry department was I knew I need someone knowledgeable to help me. I found Dr. Bruce on Wyzant and he immediately came to my aid. We have been seeing each other weekly for this semester and I can confidently say I would not hav been able to pass chemistry without him. Every session we would have he not only brought extensive material to help with any topic I needed but a smile on his face as well. He genuinely cares about you and your well being, asking me after every test how it went. A very sweet soul and I highly recommend him to anyone who is need of a chemistry help.

Thank you so much for providing your review describing your entire Fall 2022 semester SMU General Chemistry 1 experience with me. You accurately conveyed what factors are crucial in sustaining a long-term, successful student/tutor partnership. Yes, the emotional part is just as important as the academic component. Pre-Med, Pharmacy and Dental students whether attending SMU or other colleges would be wise to reflect on what you have communicated. I even go a step further beyond just the core tutoring to train my students in how to become better diagnostic thinkers, which will only benefit them in their future careers. I thoroughly enjoyed our association and only wish you the best as you continue along your Pre-Dental academic pathway. Dr. Bruce

The best Chemistry tutor

I started working with Dr. Bruce when I was a junior in high school in AP Chemistry. I was struggling in the class because of the overwhelming concepts, but after consistently working with Dr. Bruce, I was able to come out of the class with an A and a 5 on the AP exam. That was almost 2 years ago. I have recently just completed Organic Chemistry I and 2 over the summer at SMU (at an extremely fast pace). Dr. Bruce worked and supported me throughout the two courses, which helped me immensely to earn A’s in both ochem I and 2. Dr. Bruce always brought forth a plethora of resources to answer all of my questions. Sometimes even answering my questions before I asked them! He not only would answer my questions, but he would incorporate applications of chemistry to the real world (such as in nutrition or his previous research) to make the learning process much more interesting. Dr. Bruce patiently worked with me through very challenging problems and thoroughly explained concepts using clear and simple language. He has helped me succeed in some of the most daunting and rigorous courses of the pre-med curriculum. I could not recommend Dr. Bruce more as his scope of Chemistry knowledge is incomparable to other tutors out there!

Tutor responded:

Hi Connie, Thank you very much for your very thorough and objective feedback. I'd be hard-pressed to add much more to what you've conveyed, as you truly captured the extent to which I will go to help both AP Chemistry students and then Pre-Med Organic students succeed with top grades the first time through to avoid unneeded course repetition and while also providing additional career-relevant information. In another respect, let's be honest. Both of us worked together as a team throughout this entire journey. We were always on time and always prepared at each meetup. Questions were regularly encouraged and consistently led to increased understanding of challenging concepts. So, thank you so much for making this whole experience so enriching for us both. NOTE: I am so gratified to have recently learned about all of your achievements attained upon completion of your sophomore year in May 2023 at Washington University and extend my best wishes for your continued success along your Pre-Med journey. Dr. Bruce

Extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and patient tutor

I have been tutoring with Dr. Bruce for organic chemistry 1 & 2 and he has taught me an abundance of information in regards to both the course and outside of the course as he relayed to me the importance organic chemistry plays in one’s nutritional needs. As I am a student at smu I took ochem 1 & 2 during the summer session attaining a high B in ochem 1 and A- in ochem 2 and I couldn’t have done it without Dr. Bruce. His tutoring style caters too his students needs and he explains hard to grasp concepts in a way that make them easier to understand. What really helped me through out the course was how Dr. Bruce explained why certain ochem concepts happened rather than just simply explaining them. Through this teaching style I felt like by the time I got to the test I was well prepared to answer any question that was thrown at me as I had the background information as to what was happening and why it happened it regard to the concepts that were covered on the test and beyond. Furthermore, while understanding mechanisms in ochem can be tricky I felt that Dr. Bruce did an extremely good job of breaking down each step of the mechanism for me and explaining why it happened which helped me a ton this past summer. I honestly could not have gotten a better experience from tutoring with Dr. Bruce and highly recommend Dr. Bruce as a tutor for anyone who wants to do well in organic chemistry

Tutor responded:

Hi Sabrina, Thank you very much for your kind words. Your very thought-stimulating commentary on how my complete tutoring style, coupled with the knowledge and experience gained from years of mechanistic and synthetic Organic Chemistry exposure (private sector and academic, in addition to tutoring for Organic 1 and 2), should send a clear signal to any Organic student that their confidence level will just soar through their association with me. Yes, I'm very detail-oriented and will repeat important concepts an unlimited number of times until they resonate. This is no big deal for me. What is important is that no student should look upon Organic as the so-called "deal breaker" course and end up dropping it (and even later repeating it) when they can sail through it the first time with at least a "B". You did it and so can anyone else with the desire to do so! And lastly, as you pointed out, if the prospective student is Pre-Med directed (as are you), they will benefit that much more both near and long term by seeing the connection that I establish between selected Organic concepts and 21st century macronutrient-/micronutrient-/phytonutrient-balanced Human Nutrition. I look forward to supporting you once you reach Biochemistry and then ultimately with the Chemistry section of the MCAT. Best wishes for continued academic success. I've thoroughly enjoyed our association thus far. Dr. Bruce

Highly Recommended!

I reached out to Dr. Bruce shortly after the beginning of the school year. My daughter was starting 10th grade in the IB program at Plano East Senior High coming off a year of online instruction. It was clear from initial assessments in Chemistry and Algebra she had ground to make up and she was quickly losing confidence in her academic abilities. Dr. Bruce spent the entire school year mentoring and tutoring her in both Chemistry and Algebra II. It was clear they connected from the start and he was able to help her build her confidence, improve her speed in test taking - which delivered quick and consistent results. Dr. Bruce is reliable, and based on his years of experience has a library of texts, work problems and other materials well aligned to both subjects. There were multiple times he was able to explain concepts to my daughter in ways that far outpaced her in-class instruction and helped her to master the concepts. The school year has just ended and I’m proud to say my daughter performed well in both subjects and has chosen to pursue high level Chemistry for the remainder of her IB diploma. Had it not been for Dr. Bruce, this would have been a highly unlikely outcome. If you are looking for a reliable, top notch mentor for your student in Algebra or Chemistry I recommend Dr. Bruce. You won’t be disappointed!

Tutor responded:

Hi Curtis, Thank you very much for your very insightful review describing the nearly whole school year's experience during which I was instrumental in boosting the confidence post-COVID of your sophomore daughter so that she ended up excelling in both IB Algebra 2 and IB SL Chemistry at PESH. As we've already seen, she continued to blossom under my wing with the IB Chemistry program during her junior 2022/2023 school year. Now that she has begun her 2023/2024 senior year I am elated to be continuing to be a major part of the success she will be achieving with IB HL Chemistry. She will learn a tremendous amount of practical information that will help her excel in both higher-level General and Organic Chemistry courses and also her ultimate career choice following a PharmD track. She will also become a much better critical and diagnostic thinker during this journey. All the best to your daughter, Dr. Bruce

very helpful and patient tutor

Dr Bruce worked with my math-adverse daughter once a week throughout the school year, helping her with pre-calculus. She had a dismal year doing on-line algebra 2 during the pandemic and was not prepared for pre-cal. Dr Bruce was very patient and helpful and she ended up with a 90 for the year.

Tutor responded:

Hi Lynn, Thank you very much for your feedback concerning the positive impact I had upon your daughter's ultimate success in her Precalculus course taken at Plano SHS. Since Precalculus builds to a much greater extent on important prior-introduced Algebra 2 and Trigonometry concepts, it was important for me to consistently emphasize these ideas over time as they applied to new problem situations. Best wishes to your daughter in her Senior year. Dr. Bruce

Very experienced tutor

Dr. Bruce has been teaching SL chemistry to my kid. He has spent great deal if time in explaining the concept and reminder to take notes and very collaborative way of teaching to make the kid understand the concepts
