I am currently a research scientist for an oilfield services company. While at university, I tutored many students in physics and mathematics. Though I did not pursue teaching as a profession, sharing of knowledge is a large part of what I do in my professional life. A lifelong learner, I spend much of my personal time trying new things and challenging my own understanding. My goal as a tutor is to help the student reach a high level of independence and confidence.

I have a BS in mathematics and a PhD in applied mathematics.

I have a BS and an MS in physics.

I am generally available 6pm-11pm on weekdays and 9am-9pm most weekends.

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I have a PhD in applied mathematics. During undergraduate and graduate school I successfully tutored many students in algebra. My goal as a tutor is to help each student become independent and confident. To accomplish this goal, I always start by identifying where a student is strong in the subject. By starting at a point of confidence, a firm foundation can be built.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

Calculus,

Calculus

Calculus is almost always a tough subject for students. It is the first time they really have to combine algebra, trigonometry, and geometry. Plus, there is the new idea: limits. This makes it seem tough, for sure! While in undergraduate school, I tutored many science and engineering students. By helping those students, I developed a systematic approach to ensure those I tutored didn't miss any of the key ideas. I have a PhD in mathematics and use this stuff every day.
Physics,

Physics

While getting my BS and MS degrees in physics, I tutored many science and education students. My PhD is in applied mathematics and I use all of my training every day in my career. Physics is a beautiful subject and my passion. When I tutor this subject, I want to be sure the student can solve problems on their own. There can be no independence if I do your homework for you. Instead, I prefer to help you discover by explaining the material in many different ways and solving examples. My goal as a tutor is for you, the student, to become capable and confident.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I use all levels of advanced mathematics on a daily basis. I am constantly exploring the field to learn new and interesting ways to engage students. Pre-calculus is a subject that can cover a wide range of material not limited to advanced algebra, analytic geometry, trigonometry, logarithms and exponential functions, polar coordinates, and infinite series. My broad experience makes me qualified to help students learn not only how to solve problems but also how these topics fit together.

After meeting with Tommy my son seems to have acquired a ton more confidence in Physics. It's totally obvious that Tommy genuinely lives, eats, and breaths physics. That being said, the hardest thing to do is actually convey that knowledge to a young student. Tommy seems to have that nailed down as well. Thanks again Tommy!

Tommy was amazing to work with

Tommy was knowledgeable and helpful with AP Calcus. He was also very easy to work with and had an accommodating and flexible schedule. We will continue to work with Tommy.

Amy, 4 lessons with Tommy

A patient listener and fantastic instructor- his passion for the subjects he teaches is contagious!

Tommy really helped me with some core conceptual concepts that I had been struggling with for a long time in physics. He explained these concepts to me in a way I hadn’t thought about them before and his methodical approach really helped gain a greater understanding. He was well prepared and easy to talk to. He spent as much time as was needed on each question, and actually ended up answering some of my questions before I had even asked them! I would highly recommend him to anyone struggling in physics or math. It is obvious that he loves these subjects and is very knowledgeable in them. I never thought I would actually start to enjoy doing physics! Thank you again, Tommy!

just the best!!!

Tommy helped my son when the schools were shut down due to covid-19. My son loved him and when my daughter was having problems with physics in a summer school physics class she felt and feels so much more confident. I can’t relate enough how much he has helped and will continue to do so for both my children.
