Dear Awesome Student,

Hi! My name is Sara, and I’m a teacher who LOVES to help my students feel more confident in math. If math makes you feel nervous, worried, or like you just can’t get it, you are NOT alone. A lot of students feel that way, and I’m here to help you feel calm, supported, and even excited to learn.

I’ve been teaching for over ten years, and I’ve worked with students all the way from kindergarten through middle school, both in the classroom, and as an online tutor. I went to San Jose State University in California (go, Spartans!) to become a teacher, and I earned my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential in 2015, meaning I am certified to teach both elementary and middle school in all subjects. I also received my Bachelor of Arts in English and graduated cum laude in 2007 from LeTourneau University.

I’ve helped lots of kids who didn’t like math at first or who thought they weren’t “math people.” But guess what? Everyone can learn math—sometimes we just need to look at it in a different way. In fact, my love for teaching math didn't happen until I earned my teaching degree as an adult. It was my absolute favorite class to take with other teachers. Now, it's my favorite subject to teach.

When we work together, we’ll take things step by step. I’ll use pictures, drawings, games, and real-life examples to help you see what math really means. If you’re stuck, I’ll slow it down and explain it in a new way until it clicks. I’m very patient, and I never give up on my students.

We’ll go at your pace, and I’ll always listen to how you’re feeling. It’s okay to make mistakes—that’s part of learning! My job is to help you feel proud, strong, and ready to try. I can’t wait to learn with you!

Your tutor,
Sara

Common Core

I am very familiar with Common Core math and language arts. As a former public school teacher, I used and wrote curriculum aligned to these standards in all of my lessons. I also have a good sense for which standards align across grade level and the priorities for teaching them all by grade level.
