Bio

I'm currently a full time 737 simulator instructor for a major airline as well as a 20 year retired flight and simulator instructor pilot for a major aircraft manufacturer and retired Air Force pilot with 25 years active duty and reserve. I have over 11000 hrs flight time in 16 different aircraft ranging from the Cessna 152 to the Boeing 747 and C-17 and am fortunate to have a career I really enjoy. I also previously taught biology chemistry and US history at my local school district as well...

I'm currently a full time 737 simulator instructor for a major airline as well as a 20 year retired flight and simulator instructor pilot for a major aircraft manufacturer and retired Air Force pilot with 25 years active duty and reserve. I have over 11000 hrs flight time in 16 different aircraft ranging from the Cessna 152 to the Boeing 747 and C-17 and am fortunate to have a career I really enjoy. I also previously taught biology chemistry and US history at my local school district as well as specialty courses on aeronautics. I work part time as a high school varsity basketball and football official and tutor online specializing in OAR, ASVAB and AFOQT test prep with concentration in the math, mechanics and aviation sections. I have been tutoring for over 20 years and really enjoy the opportunity to share what I have learned with others. I have former students in all service branches from special operations to pilots.

I graduated from BYU with a BS in zoology (premed), and have an MS in Information Management from Webster University, an MS in Aeronautical Science and Aviation Safety from Embry-Riddle and am one class short of an MS in Biology Instruction from Clemson. I have a certificate in Weather Forecasting from Penn State and just completed a college level algebra review from Illinois State. I have coached swimming at the high school and USA Swimming level and coached swim clinics with US Olympic coaches. My wife and I own a horse ranch near Spokane, Wa where we rescue and rehabilitate abused and neglected horses and raise chickens, cows and goats. I love where we live.

As you can tell I love to teach. I have a varied teaching style, based on the Socratic Method, that has proven very successful, but am also very flexible in that style. Due to my geographic location, I would prefer to work on-line, but if you are close enough we can conduct face-to-face lessons.

Three of our four children are ADD/ADHD and went through the majority of their school years on IEPs. Getting the school to fulfill their legally mandated responsibilities in accordance with the IEP process was a constant struggle. As a result, I am very familiar with that process, most specifically with those children in the process as a result of an ADD/ADHD diagnosis. I have worked extensively with ADD/ADHD children both as a sports coach and tutor. I have found the reason most have difficulties is the public school system often still does not see ADD/ADHD for the difficulties it can cause to the learning process and are ill equipped to handle it. I have also found that ADD/ADHD children respond wonderfully to anyone who they feel understands their struggles, cares about the difficulties they face and sincerely wants them to succeed. Because of my family situation I have a special affinity for ADD/ADHD children. I want to help them reach their potential and have the successes they deserve.

I am a retired US Air Force Lt Col pilot with 25 years service both active duty and reserve. I am a graduate of Air Force Squadron Officer's School, Air Command and Staff College, Air War College, and Army Command and General Staff College. I am also a graduate of Flight Safety Officer School and Air Force Systems Safety Courses, Advanced Flight Tactics School, and have been a flight instructor at the heavy airlift flight school and taught flight mishap safety investigation board courses. I have served in leadership and staff positions from squadron to headquarters level. I have a BS in zoology, an MA in information management, and an MS in Aeronautical Science and Aviation Safety and a post-graduation certificate in weather forecasting. I have a son who is an Army 1Lt who I helped study for his ASVAB test. I very much understand what it takes to study for a military test, have actually help write them, and what the military is looking for in future recruits.

Biology was my favorite subject in school up to post grad work and my post grad thesis, Equine Feeds of Northeast Washington, has been used by local famers and ranchers as a source document. I am a parent of four children and worked with them all through their school years. I have been teaching/instructing children in one form or another, everything from swimming to the introduction to flying, since high school. I helped my wife homeschool our children from kindergarten to junior high and then helped tutor students during in school study sessions in junior high as well as children from foreign countries such as Colombia, Peru, and China. I have worked extensively with children of all ages as a sports coach, scouting leading, youth leader, and Sunday school teacher for our church. I took classes in Child Development and Family Relations in college and classes in psychology which included child psychology. I am currently taking a course in how to communicate with children, preteens, and teens. I know how to work well with children/youth of all ages.

Workout 5-6 days/week in swimming running and weightlifting. I was a zoology major in college with advanced courses in physiology, inorganic, organic, and biochemistry, anatomy, and nutrition. Recently completed a refresher course in biochemistry. Have written articles on sports nutrition and swim drill technique. I receive weekly ASCA newsletters on topics such as exercise physiology and technique.

I have a Master's of Arts in Computer Resource and Information Management from Webster University of St Louis MO. I have been wroking with computers since the 1970s when we used punch cards to enter data. Since then I have used computers on a daily professional basis for over 25 years. I was the information systems and computer systems manager for a small working group of 8 people for 1.5 years. I am intimately familiar with Microsoft Office and use it on a daily basis. I have also served as a computer merit badge counselor for our local BSA council. I am currently workng on a second masters degree in Aeronautical Studies which requires all class inputs be done via compueter and the internet. Each class requires weekly inputs, one including downloading and working with a math symbols program to download and upload advanced aerodynamic calculations. At the each of each class we are required to write and submit a multimedia (audio, video, text, and graphics) 12-30 page final presentation which is sent over the netyand peer reviewed and graded. My current job requires me to develop, maintain, and present multimedia presentations. After each presentation is complete each lesson is taught on computer generated simulator and the final outcome is logged and recorded on a computer data recording system. I communicate with a full service Blackberry device using a Bluetooth headset when driving. I am very familiar with basic computer technology and how to use it.

I have a degree in zoology from Brigham Young University which includes extensive studies in microbiology. Included in these studies were several 200 and 300 level courses on microbiology, cellular physiology, lab work, and organic and inorganic cellular chemistry. I have tutored microbiology as a homework assistant at the local high school and taught introductory classes to home school students. I currently self study and review microbiology at the college level using the BYU advanced physiology text as a guide for tutoring for an on-line tutoring service.

I have been speaking publicly since literally kindergarten age: in two languages. I was a member of my high school's speech team and have spoken to groups as large as several hundred. I have given professional presentations to generals, Fortune 500 VIPs, foreign dignitaries and congressional and senatorial staffers. While most people deathly fear public speaking, I am one of those rare souls who actually enjoys it and enjoy even more teaching others the little tricks and clues that can take to "fear factor" out of speaking publicly. Most dread public speaking because they have never been taught how to prepare and become familiar with the concept. I can teach you how to become comfortable speaking publicly.

I served as a missionary for two years in Colombia, South America prior to finishing college. There I learned to speak fluent Spanish, learned more of various religions of the world, and more of differing religious beliefs and cultures gaining increased respect for all. I attended religion classes through all four years of high school, and studied religions of the worlds as part of that curriculum. I attended seven semesters of religious instruction during my college years. I have taught religion classes at my local congregation to all ages ranging from preschool to adults. I do some sort of brief religious study 3-4 times a week. Religion is a very important part of my life and has been since my childhood.

As a parent of three special needs children I am very familiar with their unique requirements and situations. All three of my children are either college graduates or current college students. The college graduate is an Army officer and all had or have "B" averages in college. Having been through years of IEPs, from grammar school to high school, I understand the processes required for these plans to be successful. I also know that each student is different; each has their own challenges and frustrations, but also their own personalities and joys they experience. Through my time tutoring I have taught students challenged by ADD, ADHD, CAPD, and bipolarism to name a few. I have enjoyed working with each one and been very successful. I am convinced that these students, in concert with the school and parents, can find the success they want and are capable of in any academic environment.

I have been publicly speaking and striving to improve my speech abilities since I was eight years old. As part of being a Cub Scout and Boy Scout public speaking was requirement for rank advancement. I was a member of my high school debate and speech team qualifying for districts in extemporaneous speech in my first high school competition. After high school I lived in Colombia South America for two years giving religion and English lessons in Spanish. As part of my career in the Air Force I worked in high level headquarters positions giving speeches (briefings) on my subjects of expertise to congressional staffers, generals, and other various VIPs Before every flying missions I gave briefings on mission requirements to groups from 4 -30 depending on mission requirements. I have given speeches to congregations of over 300 as part of current religious duties duties and taught speech preparation lessons to the youth groups sponsored by my church. In my current job as an aircraft flight instructor I have taught flight lessons to student from over 30 different countries and given tours, demonstration flights, and aircraft capability speeches literally to CEOs of fortune 500 companies and VIPs from international air carriers. Public speaking has been a part of my life since I can remember. High school, college, civilian and military courses taken about speech has allowed me to broaden my vocabulary given me the ability to adjust my speech style and patterns to any topic and group.

College graduate with BS in Zoology from BYU, an MA in Information Management from Webster University, and currently working on a second MS degree in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle University. I am an retired Air Force pilot with 25 years service. I have completed four graduate level military courses. While in high school, college, and the military I took and taught multiple study skills courses which were essential in order to keep up with the strict academic and professional environment. The current MS program I'm involved in requires up to 20 hours/week for course such as aerodynamics, human factors engineering, and Safety Managment Systems operations again requiring superior time management and study skills. My profession as an Boeing 747/777/787 instructor requires up to three practical tests a year again requiring that I maintain up to date study skills. I have found that few if any schools teach study skills and depend on students to try and figure this out often resulting in frustration with school. Refined study skills can help a student understand subjects much better when they know the right way to study. Less time is wasted and more information is retained. With over 45 years of refined time management and study skills I know how to study and to teach others these same techniques and skills.
Swimming

I have been swimming competitively and coaching swimming for over 35 years. I have coached at multiple levels including summer league, USS, high school, masters, and as a swim camp instructor at SMU. I attended coaching clinics in o8 and 09 run by Olympic coaches, Richard Quick, Jon Urbancek and Mission Viejo Coach Bill Rose. I am a current ASCA level 2 member. I have coached swimmers from children to adult to USS sectional, zone, and national qualification levels and high school All-American Consideration in 100 Breaststroke and All-American in 400 free relay. Some of my former swimmers have held and still do hold multiple high school and club records in breastroke, IM, free and medley relays. I have worked extensively with adults to improve stroke technique for competition in masters, triathlons, and simply for the enjoyment of swimming better. I am a former Red Cross and BSA certified life guard and have taken and taught advanced BSA and military open water and cold weather survival courses. Swimming is a very technique driven sport, that's why swimmmers like Phelps, Lochte, Soni, and Kitjima swim so well is they have almost flawless technique. Anyone can swim well, all is takes is desire a coach who knows what they're with a thorough and up to date background in the latest swimming techniques. I have that knowledge and I know technique.

We were very pleased with our student's first session. Bill was very good at explaining the subject at the level at which it is being taught. Our daughter was happier about biology than she has been since the class started. She felt inspired to do better and felt hopeful. This was exactly what we had wanted for her.
