Hi there! I’m Furman, and I’d love to help you or your child grow in both mathematics and music. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Finance from the illustrious Prairie View A&M University, and I recently earned my MBA in Business Analytics from Ohio University, where I graduated among the top of my class.

I’ve been playing the saxophone since elementary school and continued through college, performing in various ensembles and marching band programs. During high school, I discovered a passion for teaching when I worked at summer music camps, instructing elementary and middle school students in saxophone and basic music skills. I aim to bring that same energy to every lesson—supportive, fun, and focused on growth.

In addition to music, I’ve always had a knack for math. During undergrad, I often helped classmates with their math homework and exam prep, especially in subjects like Finite Math. My academic background has given me a strong foundation in topics like Algebra, Geometry, and Pre-Calculus, and I’m excited to help students overcome math anxiety and build lasting confidence.

While I’m new to formal tutoring, I’ve been informally teaching and mentoring peers and younger students for years. My tutoring approach is patient and flexible—I adjust my methods based on how each student learns best. Whether it’s working through math problems or learning a new saxophone piece, I focus on clarity, encouragement, and consistency.

In our sessions, students can expect:

Step-by-step explanations for math topics.

Foundational and intermediate saxophone instruction or general music instruction.

Engaging lesson plans that match your pace.

A friendly, low-pressure environment that supports learning.

Whether you're looking to improve your grades or learn more about music, I’m here to help make the journey enjoyable and effective. I look forward to working with you!

I have played saxophone continuously from elementary school through college, with extensive experience in jazz, classical, and marching band settings. In high school, I was lead in both symphonic winds and the top jazz band, participating in solo and ensemble competitions. I have taught at summer music camps and performed regularly with my combo, trio, and quartet groups. My teaching focuses on mastering fundamentals and building a strong technical foundation, tailored to help students succeed in any musical setting.
