I'm Kiyah! I graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in Electrical Engineering and a minor in Mathematics. I chose to pursue this degree in high school after realizing how much fun I had learning Physics and Calculus. My high school teachers had a very strong passion for the subjects they were teaching and while learning from them, their fire passed on to me. When we're having a hard time learning, it can be frustrating and discouraging. I've always found that learning from someone who is enthusiastic and wants to help can feel reassuring. With reassurance, comes an open mind, and with an open mind, learning even a subject you dislike is not so bad! So I always try to teach my students with a heart in love with math and a willingness to help them succeed.

My first tutoring experience was in college. I worked in my university's engineering college as a Workshop Facilitator for three semesters and a Teaching Assistant for one semester. My primary roles were to help students taking electrical engineering courses to understand the concepts through problem solving and discussion and to complete their assignments. After college, I worked for two years as a math tutor for Adults, College Students, Middle School Students, and Elementary Students.

While tutoring, I like to take the approach of re-iterating the concepts my students learned in their classes and then working through different problems together to better understand how to apply them. When it comes to math, the best way to see if you understand how to solve a problem is by solving a few problems. As a result, my tutoring sessions often become a problem solving session.

As a tutor, my goal is to become a resource for students to grow in their understanding and confidence of the subject. If you know what you want to cover before our session, it's great if you can let me know in advance so that every minute of our session can be dedicated to improving our skills in math. Feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson!
