About Ree

Bio

I have a full time job at a college tutoring lab where I spend 40 hours a week helping any student that comes in with math questions. I tutor every class my college offers, including statistics and multivariable calculus. I started this job in 2008, so I have a lot of experience helping a wide variety of students. I’ve guided adults coming back to school after decades working. I've mentored teenagers starting college early.

I prefer to have the student bring the actual homework problems they’re working on, then we go through them step by step so they make sense. I adapt to my student. Maybe we go slower on this step, maybe we speed through that part, maybe we just stop the problem and review some forgotten concept from 3 math classes ago, or maybe I make up some similar problems to help the student get more practice on the idea. I do whatever helps the student learn how to be able to do similar problems without me.

I finished a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics when I was 19 years old. I have a math tutoring YouTube channel with over three hundred thousand views. I spent years in Toastmasters International learning how to communicate effectively. I can explain math so that it actually makes sense.

In addition to the usual classes listed on my profile, I have a lot of experience tutoring Math for Teachers and the weird class with truth tables and contrapositive statements (I’ve seen it called Contemporary Math or Finite Math or Survey of Math or Logic or Proofs).

I started tutoring online in 2013 and I’ve gotten quite good at it. Usually I share my screen so the student sees exactly what I do on my computer, and work out problems while using voice to explain every step. I'm skilled at drawing math with the mouse, or I can use LaTeX to quickly type math that's very easy to read.

Send me a message if you’d like to learn more.

Calculus

Calculus

I've been tutoring college students in calculus 1, 2, 3, and business calculus for over 10 years. I can make limits make sense, help students understand which derivative rule applies to which problem, or draw how to re-order double and triple integrals. For online tutoring I'm able to quickly do math work in LaTeX, which makes textbook-quality notes so that it's easy to tell apart the u's and v's on an integration by parts problem.
Discrete Math

Discrete Math

After I took Discrete Math my university hired me as an official Discrete Math tutor. Then they also hired me as the homework grader for a Discrete Math class. I'm very good at taking unusual math concepts and explaining them in ways that make sense.
Finite Math

Finite Math

I have helped hundreds of students with weird math classes, especially the ones you can take instead of algebra or statistics. I've been tutoring for community colleges since 2007 and I've spent a lot of time helping with Finite Math, Contemporary Math, Survey of Math, Logic, Quantitative Reasoning, Educational Math, Math for Teachers, Game Theory, and plenty of other classes. I'm very good at explaining truth tables, set notation, unions and intersections, financial math (from simple interest rates to mortgage amortization tables and credit card average daily balances), probability, statistics, proofs, doing math in alternate number systems (like base 12 numbers) and many other unusual math topics.
Real Analysis

Real Analysis

I got A's in the proof based math classes Real Analysis 1, Real Analysis 2, and Abstract Algebra. I also tutored several of my fellow students in those classes while taking them. I can only tutor these classes at the undergraduate level, not the masters level.
Statistics

Statistics

I help dozens of students every semester with college freshman level stats classes. I am very good at teaching topics like class boundaries, probability questions about dice or cards, combinations and permutations, normal distributions, hypothesis testing, and using TI83 or TI84 graphing calculators. I can do all that with no preparation. But if you want help with higher level statistics (calculus based probability or actuarial modeling) please send me the problems at least two days ahead of time.

Explained concepts until I understood.

Ree is an incredible tutor who helped me understand and pass my statistics class. He is patient, attentive, and will check in to make sure you understand during the session. I struggled through the beginning of stats and Ree made sense of everything from combinations to types of distributions. He is an amazing tutor and I'm lucky to have found him!

Super helpful and adaptive tutor! Highly recommend!

I struggle with math in general and am typically a slower learner, but Ree's tutoring has totally saved me this quarter in Calculus 2! He is very kind and patient when explaining and is willing to go at your pace. He explains concepts in easy terms and makes sure you understand the content well! Ree uses a system where the math can be typed out so I am able to look back at session notes and not have to struggle with reading illegible handwriting. He asks for my input on next steps in solutions which helps me tremendously in staying engaged. If you need a tutor who is very informed and organized, go to Ree!!

Knowledgeable and patient!

He thought me how to grasp a concept in certain chapter in Elementary Statistics. He was very patient and answered all my questions. We review all the chapters I had to prepare before my quiz. Also, he helped me use the TI/83 calculator and helped me understand the material by using simple questions.

Amazing Tutor

I can't say enough good things about Ree. He is the best tutor I have used. He tutored me though Pre Cal and Calculus 1. I took Calculus 1 during the summer which made the course very fast paced with a lot of material crammed into 5 weeks. He helped me survive the class and come out with a good grade. I am thankful to have found him. He has such a great way of explaining things. He uses analogies and other methods that not only make the material easier to understand but will also make me remember the material forever. He is always patient, even when I need things explained numerous times. If I do not understand something, he has 10 other ways of explaining it to me. He has good communication skills, has been available when I needed help and he is always professional. He keeps me motivated and focused. I look forward to being tutored by Ree next semester as I tackle Calculus 2. I would highly recommend Ree as a tutor. He knows his stuff!
