Waseda University/Tokyo, Japan (Business)
I am a native Japanese speaker and a resident of the U.S. with a background in business. I am bilingual in Japanese and English, written and verbal. I greatly enjoy teaching and translating as a freelancer. I professionally translate and subtitle scripts of anime series. I have experience teaching students in different skill levels from diverse backgrounds. I have been teaching one-on-one, online, and group lessons. I also teach classes at the business college in Dallas. I have experience preparing students for EA/CBE and JLPT.
I cater my lessons to the individual student to meet their diverse interests and academic abilities. I focus not only the grammatical and conversational aspects, but also on the cultural aspects of the Japanese language. Culture influences the way people use the language. Japanese is very contextual. Therefore, I strongly believe that Japanese culture is not only an inseparable component of knowing and understanding Japanese but also one of the most enjoyable aspects of learning Japanese. I am well acquainted with the views and ideas of both Japanese and English culture. My bilingual background has provided me the opportunities to see first-hand the most effective ways to teach and interact across cultures.
Regardless of what motivates you to learn Japanese, I can help you achieve your goal. I look forward to hearing from you! I am a native Japanese speaker and a resident of the U.S. with a background in business. I am bilingual in Japanese and English, written and verbal. I greatly enjoy

Atsuko is an amazing tutor for my daughter. She is prepared and on time every week. They work hard together and it is amazing the learning that is going on! We are very happy with Atsuko and the progress we have made in a month on learning the basics of the Japanese language. We look forward to the lessons every week!
Atsuko has been an amazing tutor for my son. He comes home excited about what he is learning and looks forward to his tutoring sessions. Thank you Atsuko!
I have been tutored by Atsuko Sensei for around two months now and I must say she puts more effort into her lessons then any other teacher I have seen. She has helped me with a translation of a story in order the help me improve my Japanese, created several lesson plans based on input in order to make the lessons fun as well as productive. She is also one of the most approachable teachers I have met, constantly responding to texts and emails throughout the week, making learning a continuous process instead of something done once a week. If you live nearby I would recommend Atsuko Sensei over any other tutor.
Atsuko helped me a lot, I'm a Spanish speaker and she adjusted her teaching methods to achieve a great class.
Astuko san is an amazing teacher. She really takes the time to break down the Japanese language and teach you piece by piece. She is very understanding and attentive to each student's learning needs. She is very passionate about what she teaches, and is super fun to learn from! She is truly the best teacher I have ever had, and I look forward to many more lessons with her in the future. Astuko san is awesome!!!!
My daughter is taking lessons from Atsuko. She has completed 4 lessons so far, and we have found Atsuko to be a very patient and effective tutor. She is great with communication and is always punctual. My daughter is taking lessons from Atsuko because she wanted to learn Japanese. Atsuko has done a great job at assessing her abilities and developing a learning plan that suits my daughter.
Atsuko M. made a great first impression on my daughter and myself. She worked with my daughter to find out the best way to teach her Japanese and listened to her requests on how she would like to proceed. Atsuko was on time and very friendly and my daughter felt comfortable with her. We have set a tentative date for the second lesson and we are looking forward to that date.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
