Hello! My name is Jennifer, and I have a degree in Math with a focus on education. I can tutor a variety of subjects from basic elementary math to calculus, basic natural sciences to upper division chemistry. I started out majoring Chemistry at Harvey Mudd College where I was taught not only a wide breadth of subjects in math as science and a more in depth knowledge of chemistry but most significantly that being able to communicate our work is just as important as the work itself.

I find this approach is especially helpful in math and science. Many people have anxiety with these subjects because society has portrayed these subjects as difficult and only for the really academic types. I think that this not true, that with a lot of time, patience, and empathy, math and science can be not only accessible to all, but it can be fun. They are puzzles that we can unravel together.

Particularly, most of my experience has been working with students who are non-traditional in some way. I am experience with working with students with learning disabilities, returning to school after years of not attending to change career paths later in life, students where the traditional education system has failed them, or a combination of those. As a person who struggles with ADHD, dyslexia, and dysgraphia as well as experience all different types of schools from attending them to working in them, I have an understanding on a level that a lot of educators may not have.

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

This is one of the most common classes that I teach. I have taught this as a summer school class as well as tutored all different ages who have had to take this class. I keep in mind what the students future goals are in regards to math since someone who just needs to pass as a requirement vs someone who will be a STEM major will need to focus on different aspects.

Calculus,

Calculus

I have many years of experience teaching this subject. I have run summer prep classes as well as worked as a TA while I was in school teaching and tutoring this subject. I also ran study groups for calculus for the class but also to review for the GRE. This also was one of the classes I taught during my teaching apprenticeship. My strength is breaking down what seems like big concepts and relating it to stuff students have seen before. I'm patient and personable, and I work really well with students who may have anxiety toward this subject.

I have years of chemistry tutoring experience, ranging from high school chemistry and AP chemistry to college chemistry and lab assisting. Chemistry and Pre-Calculus Triage Specialist!

I'm taking my first Chemistry class and Jennifer is helping me make sense of it all. I underestimated how complicated the subject would be and did not prepare enough for my first exam. In just 2 meetings, she helped me tremendously. I scored 81% on my exam. This is a miracle because without her I'm sure I would have failed. I would never have been able to do this on my own! She's also helping me with my upcoming Pre-Calculus exam, which is just around the corner. What a lifesaver! I plan on meeting with her regularly from here on out. Not only is she very knowledgeable, she has a way of explaining things in as many ways as it takes for one to understand the concepts at hand. Also, she is very encouraging and patient. I highly recommend her as a tutor!

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Jennifer has been working with my daughter in both physics and algebra 2. We started with her when my daughter was in a tailspin in both classes and in danger of failing. Jennifer has been great. Saved the grade last semester and is keeping her out of the danger zone now. These are both very tough subjects for my kid she is gaining confidence and improving steadily. So grateful we found Jennifer!

Kind and patient tutor

We had 3 lessons with Jennifer, she is very kind and patient with my son and explains things in a manner that he can understand. She is always prepared for the lesson and my son finds the material easy to understand with her. We hope to keep on tutoring with her for the duration of the high school.

patient, fun and helpful

Jennifer has been working with our daughter on her chemistry. She has helped her bring her grade up from a low B to a high B in a matter of a few weeks. She is fun, patient, engaging and able to help our daughter connect with the material in ways that last and she can build upon. At this rate, our daughter will end up with an A in the class and a confident understanding of the curriculum.
