Hi there! My name is Andrew, and I am currently a Ph.D. student at Vanderbilt University. For my undergraduate degree, I went to Emory University to receive a bachelors of science in biology. I graduated Summa Cum Laude after doing 3 years of lab research in a lab focused on liver disease.
I am very passionate about biology and general science education! (I'm basing my career off of it!) I want to eventually become a professor and be able to teach others about biology. During my time at Emory, I tutored undergraduates on the varsity cross country team on courses including Introductory Biology I & II, Biology lab, immunology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, and Organic Chemistry.
I thrive in teaching based directly off the course material presented by the professors and the textbook. I believe approaching the problem first and allowing the student to attempt it before intervening and leading them to discover the answer using logic. I also have study plans for exams that prevent a burnout or need to cram the night before. Most of all, I believe every student needs encouragement when struggling with a subject as I used to feel ashamed when I didn't know an answer. Now I understand the appeal of the unknown and thinking of different approaches to understand it.
