My name is Carmen and I was an English teacher in South Korea. I taught ages 5 through 10 for a year and a half, and in college, I had initiated and instructed Adobe software workshops for students who wanted to learn and expand the basic knowledge that was given in the classroom.
I love to tutor as well as the one-on-one teacher to student time. I did this regularly in college to help Spanish majors with their homework and to challenge them with their conversation skills. I grew up in Chile, South America until high school, which made me fluent in Spanish by the age of 4. I also attended a French Immersion program in high school giving me the ability to speak, read and write at a college level.
With smaller children, I like to integrate into lesson plans and learning games (or helping with homework) that caters to the specific child's learning ability. That can be oral, audible, and even kinetic for young boys that have difficulty seating for long periods of time.
I prefer only speaking the language that is being taught if it is language specific tutoring session. It is difficult at first, but as my preschoolers learned in Korea, they can't go to the bathroom until they could say, "May I go to the bathroom please?" With software on the other hand, I will not be speaking in 0s and 1s, but with adequate words that are not too tech savvy at first. Although, in time a vocabulary will be developed.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I took Graphic Design I and II as electives with the Print majors in the department I studied in college. We worked with Photoshop as well as InDesign throughout our projects. I work in InDesign weekly when freelance jobs come up and I have worked in InDesign for about 4 years now.
My first computer was a Macintosh Classic (square box) and ever since I have been an Apple fan way before it became popular in the 90s. I do know how to navigate on a Windows operating system, but Macintosh OS is by far my favorite.
I used to go to school where we had to use MS-DOS and then we switched over to Windows. I used a Macintosh computer at home, but having a Microsoft product at school gave me the benefit of learning both platforms at an early age. I did own a Compaq laptop at one point and ever since I am quite familiar with the Windows operating system. I have also worked on the hardware of that Compaq and added memory.
I taught Phonics to preschoolers and Elementary school students in South Korea. We prepared them to differentiate long a and short a, as well as the difference between the rest of the vowels. This was done by children's phonics books and going over rules as well as working on listening skills.
We also went over common mistakes of pronunciation that Asians have hard times with such as "would/wood" that they pronounced like "wud" without out thinking about it.
I grew up in Chile and lived there until we moved to Virginia when I started high school. I studied at German Spanish-speaking School and I had all of my subjects in Spanish. I love speaking it and I hope to help others learn it as well.
I do post-production from motion graphics to editing. I have been in the business for about 5 years using the Adobe suite. My most notable work has been a lyric video for Focus on the Family's Adventure in Odyssey club called "Get in the Show." I also have made video bumpers for the JumboTron at Gaffney High School's home football games. We were hired by the Board of Public Works for the past few years, mostly for animating a cartoon of the Peachoid (the peach water tower seen in House of Cards) and other 15 sec PSAs.
