I bring a strong educational background and extensive hands-on teaching experience to my tutoring, along with a creative and entrepreneurial perspective that enriches how I teach. I hold Associate’s degrees in both Middle School Education and Early Childhood Education and have completed over 220 college credit hours. I am currently completing my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with full teacher certification. For the past three years, I taught math and science at a charter school, and I now work as a Math and Literacy Interventionist, supporting small groups of students as they build computation, reading, and problem-solving skills. I have worked with students ages 3 through 18 in one-on-one tutoring, classroom instruction, and group learning through a homeschool association, adult learners, and I also homeschooled my two children from fourth grade through graduation.

My tutoring style is student-centered, flexible, and encouraging. I meet students where they are by breaking down concepts into manageable steps and using visual supports, games, and interactive strategies to keep learning engaging. In addition to my work in education, I am a practicing artist and small business owner, which allows me to bring creativity and real-world problem solving into my sessions. I emphasize building confidence alongside academic growth so students become independent, capable learners.

ADHD

ADHD

As someone diagnosed with ADHD in adulthood, I understand both the challenges and strengths that come with it. I have extensive experience working with students who have ADHD and other neurodivergent learning styles, both in my role as a math interventionist and as a tutor across multiple subjects. I create structured yet flexible lessons that break concepts into manageable steps while using engaging strategies to build focus, confidence, and independence. My approach blends professional expertise with personal understanding, ensuring students feel supported, motivated, and capable of success.
Common Core

Common Core

I have experience teaching and tutoring across multiple grade levels using Common Core standards in math, reading, writing, and more. While I support students in all subjects, my greatest passion is math—I love helping kids discover the joy in exploring numbers, patterns, and problem-solving. In addition to my work as a math interventionist, I homeschooled my own children from 4th grade through graduation, which gave me firsthand experience in tailoring lessons to meet unique learning needs. My goal is to make learning meaningful and enjoyable so every student can grow in confidence and succeed.
Cosmetology

Cosmetology

I am a retired licensed cosmetologist in Illinois and South Carolina with years of professional experience behind the chair and as a salon owner. My expertise covers hair, skin, and nail care as well as the business side of cosmetology. I support students in preparing for their state board exams with step-by-step guidance, while also mentoring them in the practical skills and professional mindset needed to succeed in a salon. My goal is to help future cosmetologists build confidence, pass their exams, and thrive in their careers.

I have 30 years of experience guiding students of all ages in developing their creative voices through storytelling, poetry, and personal narratives. My approach emphasizes building confidence, fostering imagination, and helping students organize their ideas into polished writing. I have taught creative writing in both classroom and one-on-one settings, encouraging students to experiment with style, structure, and genre. Whether a student is just beginning or already passionate about writing, I provide supportive feedback and strategies that help them grow as confident, expressive writers.

I tailor my lessons to each learner’s needs, ensuring they develop strong foundational skills and make measurable progress.
Homeschool

Homeschool

I homeschooled my two children from 4th grade through graduation, gaining years of experience creating lessons across all core subjects and adapting them to different learning styles. That journey inspired me to pursue teaching more formally, and I am now a math interventionist and public charter school teacher. My combined background allows me to support both families who are new to homeschooling and students who need extra guidance in specific subjects. I love helping learners build confidence, discover their strengths, and find joy in education, whether at home or in the classroom.
Painting

Painting

I love helping elementary and secondary students discover the joy of painting through fun, hands-on lessons. My approach blends creativity with skill-building by introducing a variety of mediums such as watercolor, acrylic, and tempera while encouraging students to experiment with color, texture, and technique. I make painting both exciting and accessible so students can gain confidence while developing their artistic voice. Parents can feel confident knowing my lessons foster creativity, self-expression, and a strong foundation in the visual arts.
Phonics

I am highly qualified to teach phonics, with extensive experience supporting early and elementary readers through explicit, systematic instruction. I have completed over 30 hours of focused coursework in elementary reading, literacy, and phonics to strengthen my content knowledge and instructional practices. I have worked as a classroom teacher and interventionist, providing targeted phonics instruction in both small-group and one-on-one settings, and I have experience teaching phonemic awareness, decoding, word families, spelling patterns, and fluency using structured, research-based approaches.
Reading

Reading

I have extensive experience helping students strengthen their reading skills, from early phonics and fluency to advanced comprehension and analysis. In my work with elementary and middle school students, I use engaging strategies such as read-alouds, guided practice, and discussion to build both skill and confidence. I am also skilled at supporting reluctant or struggling readers, including those with ADHD and other learning differences, by tailoring instruction to their individual needs. My goal is to help students not only improve their reading ability but also develop a lifelong love of reading.
SAT Reading

I am well qualified to teach SAT Reading, with extensive experience supporting students in reading comprehension, vocabulary development, and test-specific strategies. I have worked with middle and high school students to analyze passages, identify main ideas, make inferences, and answer evidence-based questions efficiently. My background in literacy instruction and intervention allows me to break down complex texts into manageable steps, teach annotation and elimination strategies, and help students improve both accuracy and pacing on the SAT Reading section.
Spelling

Spelling

I am highly qualified to teach spelling at the elementary level, with extensive experience in phonics-based spelling instruction and word study. I have taught spelling patterns, syllable types, and word analysis in both classroom and one-on-one settings. I completed over 30 hours of coursework in elementary reading, literacy, phonics, and spelling, and I use structured, research-based approaches to help students understand how words work rather than relying on memorization alone. I was also a spelling bee champion in elementary school, which gives me firsthand experience with effective spelling strategies, study techniques, and competition preparation.

Very patient and kind to my 5 year old!

Lori gave us a wonderful first session. My 5 yr old is normally very shy, but Lori made her feel very relaxed and calm. She was very helpful coming up with a plan to help our girl become a strong reader. Looking forward to the progress to come!
