Greetings! My name is Nichole. I am an English educator with over 20 years of experience, holding a Master's degree in Literacy Education and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. Throughout my career, I have taught and tutored students from both high school and middle school at various levels. I find working with students rewarding. I love to witness student light bulbs or "Ah, ha" moments, such as when students discover so many hints during a second reading of a short story that ends with a plot twist.
I genuinely enjoy teaching and working with students. I am fortunate that English is my content area, as it allows for rich engagement with various texts, student writing, and meaningful discussions. These aspects serve as an excellent way to get to know my students and gain insight into their likes and dislikes, as well as their strengths and weaknesses, for future sessions. A student once asked me how I can find such engaging literary AND informational texts!
My tutoring approach focuses on engaging techniques, teacher modeling, guided student practice, metacognition (thinking about one's thinking), and consistent encouragement. I am well-versed in the state standards and middle school and high school state tests. I have received district acknowledgement for state high school test scores.
