Bio

... As a trained performer and public speaker, I also help students develop their voice and body language to more effectively communicate in public. ESL - As a trilingual person (English, Chinese ...

I'm a graduate of Brown and Harvard University with a passion for helping students uncover their potential. My choice to tutor is rooted in the firm belief that everyone, with the right guidance and practice, can achieve their learning goals. My time at Brown and Harvard has taught me that success comes from detailed personal attention and employing fine-tuned goals and methods. As a tutor, I am an instructor, a cheerleader and a steadfast guide that help students navigate the sometimes difficult but exhilarating path of learning!

SAT/ACT PREP - A standardized test is standardized, meaning its form and content are predictable. Using my years of experience and expertise, I help students navigate the terrain of each test and section. Through a combination of strategy, drills, and timed practice, I help students improve their performance and thereby their chances for a better education.

College/Graduate App - The personal statement is an essential part of any successful application, but many students struggle with how to translate their thoughts and experiences into effective writing. As an IVY-graduate and Writing Fellow, I know what it takes to make an impression on the page. From brainstorming to editing, I help students develop their own voice and craft personal statements that reflect their experiences and further their goals.

Math - Math is logic, and human beings naturally posses a capacity for logic. Unfortunately, teachers often confuse the matter for students by not having enough time in the classroom, or using inaccessible terms that make the logic hard to follow. As a math tutor, I help disentangle the confusion by breaking down difficult material into digestible parts and building new pathways for understanding.

Writing - I love helping students find their voice. Students often have great ideas but don't know how to organize their thoughts and and communicate them in an effective way. Having worked as a Writing Fellow at Brown, I've been trained in facilitating a writing process across the academic curriculum. Whether it's writing exercise or an important final paper, I help students sort out their ideas and write with greater persuasion and clarity.

Public speaking - Many people feel uncomfortable with public speaking situations. I give my students tools in approaching their public speaking engagements - from how to structure their delivery to how to face a crowd or interview with focus and confidence. As a trained performer and public speaker, I also help students develop their voice and body language to more effectively communicate in public.

ESL - As a trilingual person (English, Chinese and Swedish), and having studied on three continents, I have an in-depth understanding of the language journey that second-language learners go through. Unlike monolingual instructors who often take phrasing and words for granted, I am acutely aware of individual speech-patterns and am able to adapt my instruction accordingly. Having trained extensively in vocal production and public speaking, I have also successfully helped students reduce their accent and become more comfortable in their non-native environment.

My tutoring approach is always tailored to the goals and needs of my students. Get in touch and see how we can best help you or your family member reach your learning goals!

Amazing SAT tutor!!!!

I would highly recommend Jing to anyone who is looking for a tutor in Reading, Writing or Math. Jing worked with our daughter to help her prepare for her second SAT test. Jing is very personable, extremely knowledgeable, patient, and well versed in the SAT format and test taking tips. She gave our daughter SAT test taking tips that increased her confidence and skills that resulted in a 300 point increase on her second SAT test (this was an increase over her first test which was also well above average). Jing helped our daughter with all three content areas, in a positive, low pressure relaxed tutoring session. Thank you Jing !!!!!!!

My son says Jing is excellent!

I don't have direct experience, but my son (being tutored to the SAT by Jing) says that she is altogether wonderful, helpful, and a pleasure to work with. Highly recommend!

excellent tutor

Jing was an excellent tutor for my son. He had taken the test two previous times and had lost confidence in doing well for his final test. She taught him good test-taking techniques, and great strategies for tackling the Math section, which he was most concerned with. I recommend Jing very highly. Thank you!
