I majored in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry at Rutgers University. While earning my degree, I also was a Supplemental Instructor for General Biology at the Rutgers Office for Diversity and Academic Success in the Sciences (ODASIS). For this role, I designed and facilitated weekly lessons as well as mock quizzes and exams, all of which were reviewed and approved by a Rutgers developmental specialist.
At Penn State University, I am currently a Biochemistry PhD student, and have served as a Teaching Assistant for two courses: BMB 445W and BMB 482. For BMB 445W (Laboratory in Molecular Genetics), I organized lab materials and created presentations to guide students through weekly lab activities, as well as answering questions and assisting in procedures during each lab session. I also graded assignments and lab reports using a novel Excel template I devised, which utilizes several formulas to expedite the grading process and provide students with detailed feedback. With my help via office hours, several students were able to raise their grades from failing levels to passing ones.
For BMB 482 (Introduction to Computational Biology), I provided technical assistance to students, including debugging programs, helping students design their own research projects, and evaluating computational biology workflows via Galaxy, an online platform for running bioinformatics processes.
