Hello, my name is Lauren! Let me tell you a bit about myself. I have always been interested in science and competed at multiple science fairs in high school and worked for various research groups in college. After finishing my physics undergraduate degree and a physics teaching certificate, I taught a year of 7th and 8th grade integrated science covering subjects such as biology, ecology, geology, chemistry and physics.

Besides teaching, I also love research. After my year of teaching, I started a physics PhD program researching GaN nanowires. Despite the demands of a PhD degree, I continued to be involved in education and developed a program to train graduate students how to teach. I also tutored high school, college, and graduate students while under the pressures of a PhD program.

I have studied physics for more than a decade and guided discussion sections at the collegiate level, being one of the most popular teaching assistants. I have also taught others how to teach physics, increasing my ability to help students learn on all levels.

As a physicist, I use math every day and am proficient in algebra, trigonometry, geometry, and calculus. I understand math on a high level while also knowing how to help beginning students develop essential mathematical tools.

Teaching is my passion. I help students learn how to approach problems and guide them to the correct answer. I use leading questions to help students evaluate their thought processes and catch their misconceptions. My goal is to increase student's ability and confidence so my services are no longer required. Contact me so we can set up a session and learn physics and math together!

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

As a physicist, algebra is essential with applications ranging from the complex to the simple. Algebra I and II have become second nature to me as I use it every day. I am very thorough and careful in my Algebra, making sure students understand each step.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

As a physicist, algebra is essential with applications ranging from the complex to the simple. Algebra I and II has become second nature to me as I use it every day. I am very thorough and careful in my Algebra, making sure students understand each step.
Calculus

Calculus

Physics is applied calculus. As a physicist, calculus is an essential tool that I use day in and day out to solve real-world applications. Proficiency in calculus is essential to any physicists' repertoire. Currently, my favorite subject to tutor is high school AB Calculus.
Geometry

Geometry

Physics, and particularly material science, uses various mathematical tools for understanding the world. The basics of geometry are essential to any physicist, using angles and shapes to describe various phenomena. As such, I am fluent in the language of geometry.
Physics

Physics

While I have a PhD in physics, I am also trained as a high-school physics teacher. I specialize in the use of leading questions to help students evaluate their thought processes and catch their own misconceptions. Currently, my favorite subject to teach is classical mechanics. I have also led discussion sections at the collegiate level in classical mechanics and electricity and magnetism along with tutoring multiple high school and college students in physics.

Incredible and best Tutor!

It was such a pleasure having Lauren as my physics' tutor for the past few months. I came into the introduction of physics series with a strong dislike for the subject because I did not understand the concepts. However, Lauren was so patient with me, making the whole experience more bearable. She always knew how to make the subject more engaging and fun to learn. I am now so much more interested in physics and I couldn't have asked for a better physics tutor to help me through my courses. Feeling bittersweet that our sessions have come to an end but I know that Lauren will continue to do her absolute best to help other students like myself.

Knowledgable and kind tutor.

Just within our first session, she was very supportive and engaging in my learning of Physics. She even took me through her thought process while we were working through one my my harder problems. I really appreciated how attentive and engaging she was, 10/10 recommend to anyone needing extra Physics help.

More helpful that the professor

My daughter use Lauren and said that she was very helpful in breaking down Physics where her professor is lacking. She provided some extra questions for my daughter to work thru. We will use again thru out this semester.

Helpful Algebra Tutor

Lauren has been a game changer for my son, who has received almost weekly tutoring in algebra and geometry since he double-jumped in 7th grade. He will go into Algebra 2 for high school with increased confidence and knowledge thanks to Lauren. I especially appreciate her vocabulary review at the end of each lesson. I highly recommend her as a patient, knowledgeable tutor.
