Mathematics is often so confusing—and so boring. But it doesn't have to be that way! The problem is that most people were just told what to do, but never told why. Math is not some mysterious subject that only a few can comprehend. It's just another element of knowledge in general: as with any area, practice makes perfect, but that practice needs to be guided by an expert. No one gains mastery in any subject without guidance. I can help you unlock the mystery of mathematics and get you on the road to comprehension. In my time as a tutor and a teacher, I have instructed students at all stages of life and mathematical development—from 3rd graders to adults in their 40's, from elementary math to college-level calculus.
Although I am a certified teacher in mathematics (and social studies), and have received my M.Ed. in Secondary Education, I feel my biggest assets are my tutoring experience and my ability to connect with students. In addition to tutoring for mathematical disciplines, I also specialize in test preparation. Many people, children and adults alike, deal with test anxiety. Again, it doesn't need to be that way! Preparing for a test means more than just being familiar with the subject material; pacing, eliminating incorrect responses, strategic guessing, and alternative strategies (such as backsolving and plugging-in-numbers) are important test-taking techniques that can improve a person's score. In my time as a tutor, I have prepared students for many tests, including the SAT, ACT, ASVAB, GED, and GRE.
The summer is upon us, and my schedule is filling up quickly! Because tutoring is my full-time occupation, though, I can be more flexible with my time. Since I don't "go to work" for a predetermined time each day, I can meet students based upon their schedules; this allows me to work with homeschooled students, to take on more online students, and to help people out with significant writing assignments. And without a large block of my time devoted to a routine work schedule, I can be quicker in my responses to students and be more accommodating to those who might need "emergency" tutoring.
Summer is the perfect time to prep for the SAT and/or the ACT, and to work on college application essays: with no schoolwork to be done during summertime, students can receive more comprehensive tutoring to prepare. It's also a great time to get some extra help for the next school year; whether your child is a little behind, or maybe you want him or her to get ahead, the summer is the time to get the necessary instruction. Jonathan has been working with my child throughout high school, specifically with math but has also crossed over into some science areas where math and equations are a large focus. Jonathan is both confident and patient. These attributes seamlessly transfer to the student with positive results. In a short period of time, Jonathan was able to steer my child into the direction of " I can do this" when previously, my child was resigned to the fact that math just wasn't for him. The idea of having an in home tutor is great. Jonathan is flexible with scheduling which makes it super convenient in many ways. Jonathan makes himself available at a time when there are fewer activities vying for a students attention...the lesson is so much more impactful. Jonathan has a great perspective and approach which has made the experience positive. If you have a student who is struggling with math or avoiding it, Jonathan can certainly be an asset to you as well.
I really appreciate Jonathan's help these past few weeks. I have a better understanding of Algebra and feel much more prepared to take the ACT. I would definitely work with Jonathan again!
Jonathan was very patient and thorough in his tutoring. He prepared my daughter for the SATs. They reviewed and worked on her specific weaknesses and discussed strategies for the test.
My son needed help in Precalculus and Jonathan stepped in, right where my son was struggling, and patiently helped him along. My son's grade improved significantly. I am so thankful!
My son just completed his first tutoring session with Jonathan, and it was fantastic! He feels more prepared for his upcoming test and more confident with his geometry subject matter. He is looking forward to his next lesson!
My daughter was looking to brush up on her math skills for her ACT test. After one lesson with Jonathan, she learned several new techniques to improve her test scores and she felt more confident about her abilities. What was most surprising was that she had FUN at a math tutoring session and was looking forward to the next one! Jonathan was very accommodating to our schedule and even though we only had time for a crash course session of three lessons, it was worth the time, effort and money. Thank you!
Right away my daughter learned new skills and tricks. She learned more in one lesson with Jonathan than she had with several with a face to face tutor. She had a smile on her face, that's enough for me.
He gave the first 2 hours of Algebra 2 to my daughter and she feels very confident in the topics reviewed. He was able to engage her and keep her attention to be able to go through most of the subject and she wants him back every week.
Respectful and professional.
We still have a few more sessions with Jonathan before the SAT's...but so far, so good. We are grateful for his support. My son is comfortable working with Jonathan. Jonathan's schedule is flexible, which works very well with our busy lives.
We needed a last minute, new tutor
For my son for pre calc. Jonathan accommodate us ASAP and helped my son get his grade up for his semester grade with a few sessions. We do our sessions online and it's great!
Has a whole variation of ways to fit your needs of understanding math better. The help with the chain rule really simplified my understanding. It is now coming much easier to me with his help. He is very patient and adapts the lesson to help me work and solve math in easier ways, whilst still doing it correctly.
My sons were able to easily connect with Jonathan and I was happy to see them quickly making progress. Jonathan was thorough and we are already encouraged by the results. Thanks!
Jonathan is a great tutor for SAT or ACT testing. My daughters SAT score increased significantly once she had 5 sessions with him.
He is patient yet firm. He taught her how to study for the test and how to understand the questions.
Jonathan is always the best! He's very reliable and knows how to explain things and work with my struggles in math.
Another great session today! Johns knowledge, patience & making things a lot easier to understand is very helpful. Without him my daughter would be struggling for hours trying to figure things out.
I was struggling in the beginning of my Pre-cal class and was worried I would end up doing bad in the class, but then my mom hooked me up with Jonathan and I never made anything under an A on a test. It's like he really understands you and he isn't one of those tutors who will make you feel dumb for missing a simple problem. He will work through the problem and try and figure out where you got mixed up at. My favorite part of the lessons were when he would give me tips that my teacher didn't teach me and they allowed me to work through problems faster and safer. Alas, my Pre-Cal days are now over and that means no more tutoring, although I'm happy to be out of school I know I'm going to miss my weekly tutoring sessions with my friend Johnathan.
I highly recommend Jonathan. He is very patient and understanding. He tries his absolute best to work around my son's crazy schedule. He has helped my son alot in the areas he has struggled with in math. Anybody would benefit from a tutoring session with Jonathan.
Highly recommended, my daughter's grade continues to improve!!! Mr. R tailors teaching methods to learners needs and has been terrific!
Jonathon has an excellent rapport with my daughter, it's never about all math. My daughter looks forward to her lessons
Jonathan provided my son with sustained skying support to get him over the calculus hurdle during his senior senior. At first I thought that face-to-face would have been better, but this was face-to-face and even better...we didn't have to travel. His comments after lessons were very helpful to me as a parent so I could gage where my son was and reinforce messages at home, even though I don't know the first thing about calculus. Jonathan was also EXCELLENT at follow-up email conversation to help me again refine my supporting messages at home. He was quick to respond to scheduling questions and was able to accommodate us when my son had big tests,. My son felt prepared and thought he was a very good tutor!
Jonathan reviewed with me a recent quiz in order to prepare for a test. There were some concepts that I had difficulty with but he was able to explain in a way that I understood. I felt much better about going into my test.
Jonathan is really great! He explains everything in a different but simplistic way, and helps you to make good use of the scheduled time.
I am a homeschooled senior high school student studying in Taiwan. I have found my weekly lessons with Jon very beneficial. I am able to ask any broad questions pertaining to any topic (Algebra 2) and he is always prepared. He is quick with many helpful examples. Even when I ask a not so bright question he doesn't make me feel inferior. It's apparent that he is passionate about his teaching which makes learning very enjoyable. I would highly recommend this teacher!
My son needed help to pass his ASVAB. He came in from his first session enthused and ready to work. He said Jonathan was easy for him to understand. Jonathan discovered that my son was very weak in his basics. He worked patiently with him. Even though we had less than six weeks to prepare, it was a success. Thank you Jonathan.
My 9th grade son has been working with Jonathan for 3-4 months. It has been a great help to him as he was a student with low math confidence at the beginning of the school year. In fact, he was requesting to go to a lower level math class before we found Jonathan. Now he says he enjoys his class! His teacher expressed that he enthusiastically participates in class and seems quick to understand new material. We are very grateful for Jonathan's skill and patience in tutoring. My son looks forward to the lessons with Jonathan. We are a grateful family!
I will also add that our experience using WyzAnt has been very positive. I had looked at other tutoring programs-- but having access from home and eliminating driving was a huge plus. Knowing that he will have the same tutor each week, as well as being aware of the skill level and experience of the tutor (not just a local college kid) has made a big difference to me as a parent.
Very highly recommended!
I know it's a funny thing to praise, but a lot of other people I worked with had very limited knowledge of the stuff I was coming to them for help with. Jonathan however seems to know all the ins and outs, and hasn't seemed surprised at any of the stuff I've presented and it has been very helpful.
Jonathan always does a great job of teaching the information in a way that my son can understand and follow.
Available last minute. It took me a while to find a tutor who could help me with my complicated college calculus level homework. Jonathan was very helpful!
My daughter was failing HS Calculus and her teacher had suggested she transfer out of the class. There was no math course available and not knowing what to do, I searched for a tutor. Jonathon responded very Quickly And immediately was able to recognize that she had missed Some basic concepts and had given up. He started from the beginning and made things more simplified that she was able to understand. He is very patient and very positive and my daughter enjoyed her lessons. I can happily say that after 4 weeks (10 hours) she went from a 44 to a 85. Her confidence has soared and she is enjoying Calculus.!! Without Jonathon she would have failed! Thank-you so much!
Jonathan was great! I needed some clarification on some pre-cal procedures and he explained it great. I will be using his services again.
Jonathan meets with our two homeschooled children twice a week as their math teacher/tutor. He is a very patient, competent and attentive teacher. Our children have very different learning styles from each other. Jonathan is able to hone in on each of their needs and guide them with ease. Our experience with him as a tutor has been very positive.
My wife and I are very pleased with our son's first encounter with Jonathan. He was affirming of our son's abilities while showing him better ways to approach math problems. In debriefing with our son we learned that he feels very confident in Jonathan's ability to help him improve his SAT math score and also learned that Jonathan taught him some helpful tricks to improve problem solving speed in just the first session. We have scheduled several more sessions and totally recommend Jonathan!
My daughter was very nervous about working with a tutor as she felt only "not so smart" kids need a tutor. Jonathan made her feel at ease and confident that she is a very capable student as he reviewed pre calc problems with her. She came out of her first session with two thumbs up!
We will use Jonathan regularly. My daughter felt he was clear and knowledgeable, and in one lesson made her feel like she could actually get through her fast track accelerated math class.
Jonathan worked with my daughter on her math for the SAT and in just a few meetings it was obvious that he had helped her bump up a few levels in her math. We are confident that when she retakes her SAT test that the time spent with Jonathan will be well reflected in her improved scores.
Jonathan helped my nephew with Financial Literacy. My nephew said that Jonathan explained the problems in a way that he could understand. He said that Jonathan was super helpful and looks forward to having Jonathan tutor him again next week.
I struggled with math all through school and embarrassingly failed a required college algebra math course and needed to retake it over the summer. I needed help and I needed it fast. Jonathan was able to fit me into his schedule and we met twice a week. One of the main reasons why I never sought help previously was because I was scared the tutor wouldn't have enough patience with me. Not only did Jonathan have patience(especially since I had been out of high school for over 15 years) but he also gave me confidence in my abilities. I passed the class with a B and I certainly could not have done it without Jonathan's help. He was very encouraging and was able to explain things to me in a way that I could understand. I used to dread math class but now I have the confidence needed to be successful in future math courses!
My daughter was very comfortable. I like the fact that Johnathan could keep her focused and was able to pick up her problem areas after first session.
Kyle really related well to Jonathan. When Jonathan left I asked Kyle what he thought. He was so happy with him. He could understand Jonathan's teaching style. Kyle has a hard time with the way some teachers explain things. With Jonathan he caught on right away and loved his style. We were both very happy. It was nice to see my son enjoy learning math.
I met with Jonathan every Saturday for a couple weeks. He was always on time and prepared. He helped me understand the basics of math I needed to used on the ASVAB. He also gave me materials to use as I studied on my own at home. I am happy to say I passed my ASVAB and I'm on my way to continuing my enlisting process... Thanks Jonathan!!
Jonathan has helped our son be more confident in math and he's given him tools to build on what he's already learned. He's helping him prepare for 7th grade and that makes our son excited to start a new school year.
My jaw dropped to the floor when Jonathan walked out the door and my daughter asked, "Was he here for an hour? It seemed like 15 minutes." I've been home schooling my daughter for four years, and we have struggled with math from day one. When math time came, she changed into a different child, shutting down completely, saying she hated math. It was always our plan to put her into private school in the ninth grade, and during the application process, I was asked by the school to please put her in a math program, as her skills were very weak, and even with help, she would be a year behind.
I only read one teacher bio, and it was for Jonathan. He seemed to be just what my daughter needed, someone who could translate the language of math into something she could understand. I can say that I am an educated person, and I can also say that I'm pretty competent in math, but I realized from the first time that Jonathan met with my daughter that I am not a math teacher.
Jonathan met my daughter where she was mathematically. He asked about a type of problem, and worked backward, as far as he needed to, even if it literally meant beginning with definitions of math terminology. He was very careful in his questioning, never giving the impression that she should know something, or that she was lacking in skill, but at the same time, he was direct in letting her know what areas they would need to master to reach our goal. Jonathan is calm, kind, patient, and gives positive affirmations. When my daughter gets a problem wrong, he knows the line of thought that led to the mistake, explains it to her, and moves forward. I can say without question that my daughter does not hate math when tutoring with Jonathan!
If I would have know about Jonathan before now, I would have gladly had him tutor my daughter on a regular basis as part of my home school curriculum. As it stands, he will be with us all summer, and I can realistically see us having him help my daughter get off to a great start in her first semester of school as well.
Assessment of math skills in preparation of the GED to an adult learner. On the first session he raised the confidence level through his patience and vast knowledge of the subject.
I contacted Jonathan on a Monday needing help for my daughter as she was getting ready to take the ASVAB test. We had a short window with early enlistment so time was of the essence, Jonathan was able to meet with her the very next day. Not only did he help her with her weakest subject (Math) he was able to quickly identify how she needs to learn in order to help her move forward quickly. She was very excited and looks forward to doing math now as "the light bulb went off" and she understands it now, she just needed it taught a different way. Not only did she score high enough to get into the Air Force she scored a very high number which opened up more jobs to her.
Jonathan is a straight forward tutor who utilizes the time spent teaching to full potential, I wish I would have known about him earlier! Not only is he an excellent tutor, he was the key to helping my daughter realize her dream. I can't thank him enough and would recommend him to anyone who is looking for a tutor.
Jonathan is an excellent tutor! We engaged him to assist my daughter with her geometry class and he has done a wonderful job in evaluating her learning style and translating the lessons so that she understands! He has helped her grade to improve and he arranged with us an extra lesson to help her prepare for her final. Jonathan will be staying with us as a tutor as he will be preparing her for the SAT tests.
Very thorough, and with a subject that's quite tough to grasp. Easy to reach and quite relatable, we found Jonathan to be very helpful.
Jonathan was a great tutor. He was very accommodating to my changing work schedule and was always on time. Only took 3 sessions for me to really get to the point I needed to be. Definitely recommend him for anyone needing help.
Jonathan is all business all the time which shows up in test scores. ACT math score increased 5 points from the test before working with Jonathan.
Our son had been successful in math until last year. Greg struggled with 7th grade concepts. His grade dropped significantly, and most importantly, Greg was giving up. Through his frustration, Greg just didn't seem to care.
Jonathan was able to help Greg raise his math grade during the last marking period in 2013-14. More importantly, Jonathan has rekindled Greg's approach and interest in math studies. Greg seems to have regained much of his former confidence in the subject while reviewing and accelerating concepts covered in 7th grade. We believe Greg will be well prepared to begin pre-Algebra in school year 2014-15.
I highly recommend Jonathan as a tutor.
Mark (Greg's Dad)
Our son needed help with his Keystone Recovery Packet for algebra 2. Not only was Jonathan very dependable, he worked well with our son who really does not like math. Could not have completed this without Jonathan. Thanks for all your hard work!!
Always well-prepared and very thorough! Jonathan was great to work with and helped our child. We would definitely ask him to tutor any of our children in the future. Great job!
Jonathan is a very patient tutor! He takes his time and explains difficult math problems in a very easy to understand way. He is always prepared and will tailor lesson to address any problem areas. I would definitely recommend Jonathan to anyone!!
When I learned of my daughter's failing grade in calculus, her next test was in 2 days and there are only 4-5 weeks left of the school year. I came to WyzAnt in search for a tutor and Jonathan was kind enough to help us although it was the last minute begging call. Even with rush hour traffic, he arrived on time which indicated that he had intended to be early. The minute he sat down with my daughter, he spent time learning where she is with Calculus and how he could best help. He identified where my daughter was weak and tended to her with lots of patience and care. My daughter's feedback on Jonathan was also great. Jonathan had earned her respect through his knowledge and patience. I would definitely recommend Jonathan as a tutor. Since Calculus is an advanced math course in high school, I would imagine all other math-related courses would be a cake walk for Jonathan.
By the way, my daughter was average at 67. In the past critical test, she got an 83 (out of 100). I was more surprised when I met with my daughter's math teacher to learn that this was a particularly difficult test and quite a few students in her class failed. Her teacher was also pleasantly surprised of the result... which makes me a very happy Dad.
This tutor has been very helpful. Every time I was unsure of how to do a problem, he would give me a few hints without telling me the answer. If I got an answer that was incorrect, he would look at my work and tell me what my mistake was. I was able to understand many homework problems that I had trouble doing.
I contacted Jonathan on very short notice for tutoring help to take a test for employment and he was not only responsive but also willing to do research to figure out what might be included on the test. Jonathan was very patient and also followed up to find out how things went. He genuinely cares about his students and is very easy to work with. Jonathan is down-to-earth, friendly, encouraging and kind. I highly recommend him!
Jonathon is open to suggestion concerning the tutoring session and does not waste time with chit chat. He is prepared and patient. Zero ego, he explains concepts in a simple manner without being condescending. Very punctual! Zero drama. He arrives early and when given the chance he even prepares notes about the lesson that I can take with me. His demeanor is very even, he can explain a single concept repeatedly without becoming impatient. I always feel comfortable asking questions and never feel as if my questions are stupid or beneath his intelligence. I simply cannot recommend this tutor enough, well worth the investment.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Over the past five years, I have worked with more than 15 students on ACT preparation. Part of this comprehensive preparation focuses on the English section. While most students have the necessary knowledge to answer the questions in this section, the pacing is difficult to master. My tutoring process includes working with the student to navigate through the 75 questions in only 45 minutes.
I am a certified mathematics teacher, and have taught all the math courses needed for the math portion of the ACT. In addition, I have worked with more than 15 students in preparing for the ACT, and they have seen marked improvement in their math scores. The ACT math section consists entirely of multiple choice questions, and it permits the use of a calculator throughout; as a result, it requires a special approach when it comes to test-taking strategy.
The ACT Reading section is similar to that of the SAT, but moves at a faster pace. Part of my comprehensive ACT prep process is guiding students to adapt to the pacing required in the test. Quick decision-making is essential to performing well on the ACT Reading section, and I work to teach students that skill.
Of all the ACT sections, the Science section is the most demanding from a timing perspective. The average student can understand, process, and answer the questions, but it takes practice to do that in the time allotted. It's 40 questions in only 35 minutes, and some of the text is dense. As an experienced ACT tutor, I work to teach the strategies necessary to navigate this section successfully.
I have taught Algebra 1 at both the middle school and high school levels. Algebra is a course that many of my clients have needed assistance with, and I have been able to direct people--from a wide age range--to be more confident in their math abilities.
Algebra 2 is one of my favorite math subjects, and as a certified math teacher, I've had the opportunity to teach it three times. This subject is one with students who range from ninth graders to college students; that means it requires a variety of approaches, which I provide.
History is one of my passions, and something that I enjoy studying and learning about. My undergraduate minor was history, and as a graduate student, I became certified as a middle school social studies teacher. American history is so often misrepresented in today's curricula, so working with a tutor can help a student get a grasp of the full scope of that history.
I have tutored multiple students preparing for the ASVAB exam. After about 10 sessions each, the students passed the test and were able to get the job they wanted in the military. My specialty is mathematics, for which I am Pennsylvania certified; however, the test-taking skills I teach can be used in all portions of the ASVAB.
I have experience playing and coaching basketball at the middle and high school levels. In 1996-97, I coached the JV team at Mt. Calvary Christian school. In addition, I am an avid NBA fan who studies in depth the history and details of basketball.
I can help with fundamentals, particularly those used by power forwards and centers: posting up, getting position, low post moves, passing, boxing out, rebounding, position defense, setting picks, etc.
Over the past 10 years, I have been taking the Leadership Courses offered by BILD International's Antioch School. My church offers these courses, which are part of a training curriculum for pastors and missionaries. To date, I have excelled in courses covering Acts, the Pauline Epistles, the Essentials of Sound Doctrine, Elders and Leaders in the Early Church, Shepherding and Counseling, Evangelism, and the Character of a Leader.
Calculus is my favorite discipline in mathematics, and I love teaching it! I have a degree in mathematics, and have taught calculus in a high school setting. In addition, I have tutored multiple clients in calculus over the past few years--both high school and college age--and have witnessed them succeed in their course.
I'm a certified math teacher, and over the years I've seen a lot of students fall behind in math during their middle school years because they didn't have the necessary foundational skills that should have been taught in elementary school. The basics are essential: arithmetic, organization, and following procedure; these are what I focus on when I tutor elementary students.
The English language has always fascinated me. It's the richest language on earth, but also the one with the most idiosyncrasies. I appreciate those quirks, however, and I actually enjoy grammar and editing. When it comes to helping students with writing assignments, my approach is to make sure that assignment is as technically sound as possible.
I am a certified mathematics teacher, and have taught all the math courses needed for the math portion of the GED. In addition, I have worked with multiple students in preparing for the GED, and they have seen marked improvement. I use a different approach when prepping students for the GED, because they are adult learners, and don't need to be treated by children.
As a certified social studies teacher, I have taught geography in classroom situations. Geography is one of my fascinations--a hobby of sorts. I thoroughly enjoy studying maps and investigating the links between geography and history.
Geometry is one of my favorite subjects to teach because of its implications. It's a very logical subject, and mastering geometry can help a student think in a more structured manner, and be able to present argument more effectively. I am a certified math teacher, and have had the opportunity to work with several students in geometry; in each case, the student's performance improved.
No subject in recent years has intrigued me more than government and politics. I have studied the Constitution and the history of the court cases dealing with it, and I feel that I am an "expert layman" in that department. My approach to politics is not rooted in any particular political philosophy, but rather centers on historical record, pertinent law, and founding documents.
Grammar, punctuation, and word use are areas that have always interested me. After math and history, grammar is my most favorite topic to study. As an adult, I continue to learn about proper grammar, even reading books such as "The Grouchy Grammarian," which details the 47 mistakes most commonly made by professional writers. I know my grammar, and I know how to explain its rules to others.
Since becoming a full-time professional tutor, I have worked with several homeschool students who come from diverse situations. I have students I meet with exclusively online. I also have had the opportunity to serve as the math teacher for two homeschool students over the course of an entire school year.
As a certified math teacher, I have taught this subject more than any other--even at the high school level. A strong foundation in algebra is critical for any student to be able to succeed in high school mathematics. I have worked with many students in one-on-one situations, and their confidence in their prealgebra skills has increased through those sessions.
Since calculus is my favorite area of mathematics, I feel it's essential for a student to have the necessary fundamental tools when that course begins. Precalculus has so many skills that must be solid for a student to enter calculus. As a certified math teacher, I have taught both precalculus and calculus. More importantly, I've worked with a great many students in the area of precalculus, at both high school and college levels.
In addition to being state certified in both middle school and high school mathematics, I possess a broad knowledge of reading and writing techniques. English is one of my favorite subjects, and I am an aficionado of grammar, spelling, and punctuation rules. In addition, I am an excellent test-taker, and can teach the necessary test-taking skills for navigating the PSAT.
My specialty is the Judeo-Christian religious denominations. I am a member of local Christian church, and I have also attended Bob Jones University and Liberty University. I have taken multiple courses on the Judeo-Christian religion, and continue to do so today. Currently, I am working through the BILD (Biblical Institute of Leadership Development) curriculum. Over the course of the last 20 years, I have taught Bible courses at the church level to the following age groups: elementary, middle school, high school, and adult.
As a certified math teacher, I have taught all the mathematics topics covered on the SAT. As a tutor, I have worked with more than 20 students to prepare them for the SAT; this preparation is comprehensive and covers all four sections of the SAT, including both math sections. Test preparation is more than just knowing the subject matter; test-taking skills are essential and need to be learned as well.
Over the past five years, I have worked with more than 20 students on SAT preparation. This preparation is comprehensive, covering all four sections of the SAT, including the Reading section.
With the changes to the SAT, the Writing section is now the Writing and Language section. Grammar is one of my specialties, so I have been able to help a number of students improve their scores in this section of the test. In addition, my logical approach has helped when instructing students on how to write the SAT essay.
Statistics have always fascinated me, and I find them to be one of the necessary foundational pieces of knowledge people need to navigate the world. As a certified teacher, I have taught the concepts of statistics at many levels of math.
I am a certified math teacher, so I have had the opportunity to teach precalculus and calculus, meaning that I have worked extensively with trigonometry. Trigonometry often requires one-on-one help, especially when it comes to graphing. As a tutor, I've been able to help a number of students comprehend the material and improve their performances.
As a student, I have always been a capable writer. As a tutor, I must know how to dissect and analyze writing. My tutoring preparation includes frequent examination, analysis, and instruction of the writing portions of the SAT, ACT, and GED tests. I have often been told that I have a talent for explaining the fine points of grammar, punctuation, and diction, so I can help students with formal papers by teaching them how to efficiently plan and edit their papers. I can also help with the efficient construction of college application essays.
